vetman assessment
vetman’s 10-point assessment brings together a product’s regulatory credibility, clinical efficacy, safety and practicality. Cost-effectiveness is assessed only when reliable data are available. It is informational and does not replace a veterinarian’s clinical judgment for an individual patient.

Solensia

Frunevetmab 7 mg/ml, solution for injection for cats (1 ml vial)
Assessed clinical scopeCat · Label-concordant monthly subcutaneous control of pain associated with clinically diagnosed osteoarthritis in a cat at least 12 months old and at least 2.5 kg; continue only while an individual clinically meaningful response persists · Subcutaneous
Care settingVeterinary-clinic monthly injection with baseline OA/pain assessment, whole-vial weight-band dosing, risk discussion and documented response/safety review before each repeat dose
vetman score 8.0/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · Verified on 22 Oct 2026

A strongly documented, licensed and practical monthly option for feline osteoarthritis pain, with meaningful but not universal benefit. The score is held below exceptional by modest efficacy separation and the expanded 2026 post-market safety signal; every repeat dose requires response and risk review.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.5/10

Exact product identity and dosing are transparent, with active Georgian, central EU, GB and FDA veterinary authorisations, current regulatory assessments and multiple direct cat studies. Sponsor concentration is visible but does not erase the unusually strong exact-product dossier.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

Randomized trials and two major regulatory reviews support monthly OA-pain benefit, including some objective activity evidence. Modest effect sizes, NNT 9 at day 56, high caregiver-placebo response, timepoint inconsistency and sponsor-linked development prevent a best-in-class efficacy score.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

Controlled trials and PK characterise routine exposure, but skin disorders increased versus placebo and independent cases describe severe pruritic lesions with positive rechallenge. The October 2026 FDA label adds serious multi-system spontaneous reports, including death/euthanasia outcomes; incidence and causality cannot be estimated, and important comorbid/combination populations remain understudied.

Clinical practicality9.0/10

A single monthly clinic-administered SC dose, two simple whole-vial weight bands and no daily home medication make the regimen highly workable. Refrigeration, a monthly visit, fixed-vial boundaries, injection handling and response review are limited but real burdens.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current verified Georgian monthly-course price is unavailable, so cost is excluded rather than guessed.

Important safety and use flags

  • Cat-only scope: control of pain from clinically diagnosed osteoarthritis. Solensia is analgesic and does not slow or reverse joint disease.
  • For this EU/Georgian presentation, do not use below 12 months or 2.5 kg. Do not transfer the younger US age threshold to this pack.
  • Do not use in breeding, pregnant or lactating cats.
  • Do not repeat after serious hypersensitivity. Anaphylaxis appears in the current FDA post-approval experience.
  • Before every injection, discuss current risks and document whether the cat has a clinically meaningful response; stop or choose another treatment when benefit is absent.
  • Monitor for severe pruritus, crusting, alopecia, dermatitis, ulceration or self-trauma. Clinically important or recurrent skin reactions require prompt investigation and reconsideration of treatment.
  • Current FDA post-market reports also include appetite/weight, gastrointestinal, neurologic, weakness/gait, urinary/renal and other signs. Spontaneous reports cannot establish frequency or causality, but serious events including death/euthanasia outcomes have been reported.
  • Safety and efficacy are not established in IRIS stage 3 or 4 kidney disease; perform an individual benefit-risk assessment and monitor appropriately.
  • Long-term concurrent NSAID safety in cats is not established. Review all medicines and any previous/current monoclonal-antibody therapy before each injection.
  • Store at 2-8°C protected from light; do not freeze or shake excessively. Use the whole vial for the exact weight band and a separate injection site for simultaneous vaccination.
