Librela

Bedinvetmab 5 mg/ml, solution for injection for dogs (1 ml vial)
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full labelled canine indication: alleviation of pain associated with osteoarthritis · Subcutaneous
Care settingVeterinarian-administered monthly analgesia within multimodal osteoarthritis management, with response and adverse-event reassessment before repeat dosing
vetman score 7.8/10 Good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · Verified on 18 Oct 2026

A useful monthly osteoarthritis analgesic with demonstrated benefit and major adherence advantages, but not a routine automatic repeat injection: confirm meaningful response and actively screen for current postmarketing safety signals before every dose.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.5/10

All five exact strengths are centrally authorised in the EU, supported by current product information and pharmacovigilance updates, FDA authorisation and active Georgian veterinary registration.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

Two pivotal placebo-controlled field trials show statistically significant pain and function benefit, but first-dose absolute response is moderate, owner-reported outcomes have a substantial placebo component and nonresponse must be recognised early.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

Premarketing trials were broadly reassuring, but post-authorisation signals include neurologic signs, urinary changes, polyuria/polydipsia, joint swelling or pain and reports with death or euthanasia outcomes; causality is not established for every spontaneous report.

Clinical practicality8.5/10

Once-monthly subcutaneous administration avoids daily tablets and renal/hepatic drug clearance concerns, but requires clinic attendance, exact weight-band vial selection and structured reassessment before each injection.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Before every repeat injection, ask specifically about new or worsening ataxia, weakness, seizures, recumbency, urinary incontinence, polyuria/polydipsia and other neurologic or urinary changes; investigate and reconsider treatment if present.
  • If new or increased joint swelling or joint pain develops, perform additional diagnostics and discontinue or continue only after an individual reassessment.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or lactation or in breeding animals; safety and efficacy in dogs younger than 12 months have not been established.
  • Reassess objective mobility, pain interference and quality of life after the first and second doses; stop serial dosing when clinically meaningful benefit is absent.
  • Build a gradual return-to-activity plan and use within multimodal osteoarthritis care; analgesia can permit overactivity before muscle strength and joint capacity recover.
