vetman’s 10-point assessment brings together a product’s regulatory credibility, clinical efficacy, safety and practicality. Cost-effectiveness is assessed only when reliable data are available. It is informational and does not replace a veterinarian’s clinical judgment for an individual patient.

A numerical product score cannot responsibly be assigned without the lot of the currently supplied pack. The exact label and Georgian authorisation are identifiable, and prior antigenicity evidence supports several vaccine components. However, the manufacturer reports Aujeszky virus in some samples from lot 20, withdrawal and ordered destruction of lot 20, suspension of lots 20 and 21, and a stop of the entire Multican vaccine line while the cause was investigated. The notice says the restrictions concern the named lots only; it does not establish that every lot is unsafe. Equally, no official resumption notice or independently verified unaffected current Georgian lot was located by 2026-10-23. Scoring the generic catalogue pack would therefore silently treat an unidentified lot as usable.

The exact product is identifiable, but the current catalogue pack is not tied to a verified usable lot after a serious lot-specific safety event and production stop. Do not use the page as clearance; verify the physical lot and authoritative release or choose an unaffected authorised alternative without leaving the dog unprotected.

Important safety and use flags

  • Rating boundary: this is not a claim that every MULTICAN-8 lot is unsafe. It is a refusal to score an unidentified current pack while lot-specific contamination, suspended lots, a production stop and an unresolved public investigation prevent verification of a usable lot.
  • Do not use lot 20 (expiry 01/2028): the manufacturer reports Aujeszky virus in some samples and says the lot was recalled and ordered destroyed. Do not use lot 21 (expiry 02/2028): its sale was suspended.
  • The manufacturer stopped production of the Multican 4/6/8 line on 17 September 2026 while technical and sanitary investigations continued. Verify an authoritative later release or production-resumption record; a still-active Georgian registration is not batch clearance.
  • The exact instruction is IM only. Once a currently usable lot is independently verified, reconstitute with the supplied liquid component and follow the exact physical-pack label; do not infer SC use from studies of updated or other Multican formulations.
  • Label schedule, not a current recommendation: 2 ml IM for standard dogs and 1 ml for small/decorative breeds; puppies at 8-10 weeks twice 21-28 days apart, revaccination at 10-12 months, adults annually. The catalogue deliberately withholds these from dose selection until lot usability is verified.
  • Vaccinate only clinically healthy, eligible dogs after history and examination. Review previous vaccine reaction, immunosuppression, concurrent illness, pregnancy/reproduction status and required rabies/legal timing; the exact public instruction does not supply a complete modern target-animal safety dossier.
  • Protocol boundary: WSAVA core protection includes distemper, adenovirus and parvovirus, with rabies and leptospirosis according to endemic/legal risk. A fixed broad combination and its canine-enteric-coronavirus component do not replace patient-, region- and law-specific vaccine planning.
  • Cold-chain and preparation: keep at 2-8 C, protect from light, check expiry and vial integrity, use only the paired supplied components, reconstitute aseptically, obtain a uniform suspension and use sterile equipment. Discard a compromised or unidentified pack.
  • After any authorised alternative vaccine, observe for acute hypersensitivity and give the clinic an emergency-response plan. Record product, lot, expiry, route, dose, site and administrator and report suspected adverse events through the applicable regulator/manufacturer system.
  • Do not leave the dog unprotected while this product is unresolved. Select an unaffected currently authorised vaccine whose exact lot, label, cold chain and component coverage can be verified, then complete or restart the series according to that product and current guidelines.
