Sexinon

5 mg tablets, N100 for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Post-mating contraception in a bitch · By mouth
Care settingUrgent veterinarian-led pregnancy-risk assessment and evidence-based reproductive management after mating
vetman score 2.8/10 Poor / unconvincing
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A seriously unfavourable post-mating option: no reliable efficacy evidence, a high progestin dose, an internal pregnancy contraindication and major uterine/endocrine hazards outweigh the simple two-day schedule.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy1.0/10

No controlled exact-product or credible modern support was found for 2 tablets/5 kg (2 mg/kg) daily for two days after mating. Current reproductive guidance discusses pregnancy confirmation and cause-specific termination options rather than empirical megestrol; the label contradicts itself by also excluding pregnancy.

Safety and tolerability1.5/10

This high progestin exposure is given during uncertain conception status and may promote uterine pathology rather than reliably prevent pregnancy. Pyometra/CEH, mammary disease, insulin resistance/diabetes, adrenal suppression and unknown fetal/implantation outcomes make the balance seriously unfavourable.

Clinical practicality4.0/10

Twice-daily? No: the label calls for one daily administration for two days, but each dose is four tablets per 10 kg and quickly becomes a large tablet burden. Accurate weight, mating history, examination, ultrasound/follow-up and a failure-management plan are mandatory.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current exact Georgian treatment-period price and credible alternative comparison were not verified; cost is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Hard stop: this post-mating claim lacks controlled exact-product evidence and conflicts with the label prohibition in pregnancy. Do not treat an unconfirmed pregnancy empirically; obtain urgent theriogenology assessment and discuss evidence-based alternatives.
  • Bitch estrus: prevention is 1 tablet/10 kg every 14 days; early interruption is 1 tablet/10 kg daily for 7 days. Post-mating is a separate 2 tablets/5 kg once daily for 2 days. Male dog: 1 tablet/10 kg daily for 5 days.
  • Do not use in pregnancy, lactation, sexual immaturity, first estrus, genitourinary disease or tumors. Examine mammary glands and reproductive tract first; unexplained discharge, abdominal enlargement, fever, lethargy, polydipsia/polyuria or anorexia requires immediate cessation and pyometra/systemic evaluation.
  • Megestrol can cause cystic endometrial hyperplasia and pyometra, mammary hyperplasia/neoplasia, rebound lactation, reduced fertility and other reproductive pathology. Risk is cycle-stage, dose and duration dependent and is not captured by the manufacturer’s short warning list.
  • Its clinically important glucocorticoid activity can cause adrenal suppression, insulin resistance, hyperglycaemia/diabetes, increased appetite, weight gain, polydipsia/polyuria, muscle/skin changes and infection susceptibility. Obtain baseline weight and consider glucose/urinalysis and endocrine follow-up.
  • Dogs have documented chronic glucose/diabetes and uterine/mammary pathology under progestogen exposure. Short use lowers cumulative exposure but does not make poor cycle timing, repeat courses or susceptible patients safe.
  • Confirm cycle stage and reproductive status before the first dose. For estrus interruption, maintain separation from males until the veterinarian confirms the fertile period has passed; disappearance of visible signs does not prove absence of ovulation or pregnancy risk.
  • The tablet has one score and supports halves, not arbitrary quarters or crumbs. Dog regimens calculate 0.1 or 0.4 tablet/kg; if the required amount is below or between reliable half-tablet steps, select another measurable formulation rather than rounding silently.
  • Record indication, sex, cycle/mating dates, exact tablets and cumulative dose, baseline weight, reproductive/mammary findings and planned recheck. Repeated or prolonged use requires explicit reassessment; do not let the N100 pack encourage automatic maintenance.
  • Georgia registers exact Sexinon through 27 July 2027. It is not authorised in the audited EU/GB/US databases; FDA approved: no. Ovarid and other authorised megestrol products prove class use only and do not validate Sexinon’s doses, post-mating claim or safety.

Sexinon

5 mg tablets, N100 for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Suppression of male-dog sexual behaviour · By mouth
Care settingLast-resort veterinarian-directed adjunct after medical, environmental and behavioural assessment
vetman score 3.9/10 Poor / unconvincing
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A poor last-resort male-dog behaviour option: modest class plausibility is outweighed by absent exact outcomes, endocrine/reproductive risk and coarse small-dog dosing, while safer cause-directed strategies are available.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy2.5/10

Class references report reduced roaming, marking or hypersexual behaviour, but evidence is old and current guidance places progestins last because safer behavioural and reproductive approaches exist. No controlled Sexinon 0.5 mg/kg daily for five days outcome or durability data were found.

Safety and tolerability3.5/10

A short course limits cumulative exposure but does not remove progestational/glucocorticoid effects, weight/appetite change, mammary disease, adrenal suppression, glucose intolerance/diabetes and possible prostatic/reproductive effects. Exact adverse-event frequencies are absent.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

Once-daily use for five days is feasible, but one tablet/10 kg with a half-tablet split cannot accurately dose dogs below 5 kg or every intermediate weight. Medical/urinary/prostatic assessment, behaviour modification and defined response/stop criteria remain necessary.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current exact Georgian treatment-period price and credible alternative comparison were not verified; cost is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Complete behaviour boundary: only sexually driven marking, roaming or arousal after medical and environmental assessment. It is not a general sedative, aggression treatment or substitute for neutering/behaviour modification where appropriate.

  • Its clinically important glucocorticoid activity can cause adrenal suppression, insulin resistance, hyperglycaemia/diabetes, increased appetite, weight gain, polydipsia/polyuria, muscle/skin changes and infection susceptibility. Obtain baseline weight and consider glucose/urinalysis and endocrine follow-up.
  • Dogs have documented chronic glucose/diabetes and uterine/mammary pathology under progestogen exposure. Short use lowers cumulative exposure but does not make poor cycle timing, repeat courses or susceptible patients safe.
  • Use only after urinary, reproductive/prostatic, pain and environmental triggers are assessed. Set a measurable target behaviour, combine with environmental/behaviour modification and stop if benefit is absent; hormonal suppression of behaviour is a last-resort strategy.

Sexinon

5 mg tablets, N100 for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Temporary prevention or early interruption of estrus in a bitch · By mouth
Care settingVeterinary theriogenology use only after precise cycle staging and reproductive/mammary examination
vetman score 3.8/10 Poor / unconvincing
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A poor exact-product canine estrus option: class efficacy exists, but Sexinon uses markedly mismatched regimens without direct validation and retains serious uterine, mammary, metabolic and adrenal hazards.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy3.0/10

Megestrol can postpone or interrupt canine estrus, but the exact Sexinon schedules are materially lower and less intensive than evidence-based regimens: 0.5 mg/kg every 14 days versus about 0.55 mg/kg daily for postponement, and 0.5 versus 2.2 mg/kg daily for early interruption. No exact outcome closes that gap.

Safety and tolerability3.0/10

Pyometra occurred even in historical short-course cohorts; cystic endometrial hyperplasia, mammary hyperplasia/neoplasia, insulin resistance/diabetes, adrenal suppression, rebound lactation, weight gain and behavioural change make repeat or poorly staged use unsafe.

Clinical practicality4.5/10

Oral dosing is simple only when the dose is measurable. One tablet/10 kg means a 0.5-tablet minimum step; dogs below 5 kg or between practical increments cannot receive the calculated dose accurately. Cycle staging, confinement during interruption and serial monitoring add justified burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current exact Georgian treatment-period price and credible alternative comparison were not verified; cost is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Complete estrus-management boundary: prevention and interruption are included only for a sexually mature, nonpregnant female after cycle staging. Do not use during first estrus, after more than three days of signs, in breeding animals without a fertility plan or as indefinite cycle suppression.

Sexinon

5 mg tablets, N100 for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeCat · Post-mating contraception in a queen · By mouth
Care settingUrgent veterinarian-led reproductive assessment after mating; do not treat an unconfirmed pregnancy empirically
vetman score 3.0/10 Poor / unconvincing
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

An unconvincing and potentially hazardous post-mating claim: efficacy is unproven, pregnancy cannot yet be excluded, and the product exposes the uterus and endocrine system to a potent progestin precisely when reproductive status is uncertain.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy1.0/10

No controlled exact-product or credible modern evidence was found for three 5 mg tablets within 24 hours after mating. The proposed progestin mechanism does not establish reliable pregnancy prevention, and the label simultaneously contraindicates pregnancy.

Safety and tolerability1.5/10

A 15 mg fixed exposure may be several mg/kg in many queens and occurs when conception/pregnancy status is unknown. Progestational stimulation can compound uterine, mammary, glucose/diabetes and adrenal risks; fetal/implantation outcomes and rescue after failure are not established.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

One-time oral administration is mechanically simple, but the benefit-risk decision is not: exact mating timing, pregnancy assessment, reproductive ultrasound/follow-up and a documented alternative plan are required. Convenience cannot rescue an unsupported contraceptive claim.

  • Queen estrus: prevention is 1 tablet every 10-14 days; early interruption is 1 tablet daily for 3-5 days. Post-mating is a separate 3-tablet exposure within 24 hours and must not be confused with either regimen. Male cat: 1 tablet daily for 3-5 days.

Obtain baseline weight and consider glucose/urinalysis and endocrine follow-up.
  • Cats have direct evidence of impaired glucose tolerance and prolonged ACTH-response suppression at 5 mg/day. Do not assume a 3-5-day course or intermittent prevention is risk-free, especially in an overweight, diabetic/prediabetic, acromegalic or systemically ill cat.
  • Confirm cycle stage and reproductive status before the first dose. For estrus interruption, maintain separation from males until the veterinarian confirms the fertile period has passed; disappearance of visible signs does not prove absence of ovulation or pregnancy risk.

Assessed clinical scopeCat · Suppression of male-cat sexual behaviour · By mouth
Care settingLast-resort veterinarian-directed adjunct after medical, environmental and behavioural assessment
vetman score 4.0/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A weak last-resort male-cat behaviour option: short administration is easy, but exact efficacy is unproven and serious feline metabolic, adrenal and mammary risks make safer cause-directed strategies preferable.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy2.5/10

Megestrol may reduce spraying or sexual behaviour, but current professional guidance treats progestins as last-resort because safer behavioural and reproductive options exist. No controlled Sexinon 5 mg daily for 3-5 days outcome or durable relapse data were found.

Safety and tolerability3.0/10

Cats are particularly vulnerable to megestrol glucocorticoid activity: glucose intolerance/diabetes and prolonged adrenal suppression are directly documented, with mammary hyperplasia/adenocarcinoma, bone-marrow effects, weight gain and reproductive effects also reported.

Clinical practicality6.5/10

One whole tablet daily for 3-5 days is easy to administer, but a fixed 5 mg dose gives very different mg/kg exposure across cats. Baseline weight/glucose and mammary examination, medical/urinary work-up, behaviour modification and relapse review are required.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current exact Georgian treatment-period price and credible alternative comparison were not verified; cost is excluded from the denominator.

vetman score 4.6/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000144 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A plausible but weak temporary feline estrus option: the class can work, yet Sexinon prevention is not independently validated and clinically important uterine, mammary, metabolic and adrenal risks demand strict selection and short use.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

Exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer instruction verify identity, 5 mg scored tablet, N100 pack, species and eight schedules. Exact independent dossier/outcome transparency and internationally recognised exact-product authorisation remain absent; authorised megestrol controls are not interchangeable.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

Megestrol can suppress feline estrus and the 5 mg early-interruption schedule has a class bridge, but prevention evidence uses different weekly or ultra-low regimens. No controlled Sexinon outcome validates 5 mg every 10-14 days, duration or predictable return to estrus.

Safety and tolerability3.0/10

Even very low-dose feline studies report mammary/uterine hyperplasia, pyometra and major weight gain. At 5 mg/day, adrenal suppression and impaired glucose tolerance are directly documented; diabetes, mammary neoplasia and reproductive disease remain serious class risks.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

A whole palatable 5 mg tablet is easy to give, but safe use requires accurate cycle timing, exclusion of pregnancy/uterine/mammary disease, a predefined short endpoint and monitoring of weight, glucose, mammary tissue, discharge and systemic illness.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current exact Georgian treatment-period price and credible alternative comparison were not verified; cost is excluded from the denominator.

  • Estrus Prevention · By mouth (1 tablet every 10-14 days; estrus usually returns about 14 days after stopping): Female cat only. Begin only with veterinary assessment of cycle stage. Do not use for genitourinary disease, tumors, sexual immaturity, pregnancy or lactation, after more than 3 days of estrus, or during the first estrus. Long use may alter temperament, enlarge mammary glands and increase appetite/weight. Current evidence requires accurate cycle staging and exposes important pyometra, cystic endometrial hyperplasia, mammary, glucose/diabetes and adrenal risks. Do not repeat or extend the regimen without reproductive examination and monitoring; first estrus, pregnancy, lactation, immaturity, tumors and genitourinary disease remain excluded. • Post-mating Contraception · By mouth (3 tablets within 24 hours after mating): Female cat only. This post-mating hormonal use requires veterinary assessment; exclude pregnancy and reproductive/genitourinary disease before use. Observe all product contraindications. Hard evidence boundary: no controlled exact-product post-mating efficacy study was found. The same label contraindicates use in pregnancy even though pregnancy cannot be excluded within 24 hours after mating; current reproductive guidance uses veterinarian-confirmed pregnancy and cause-specific options, not empirical progestin exposure. Do not present this row as a preferred pregnancy-termination protocol. Hard evidence boundary: no controlled exact-product post-mating efficacy study was found. • Suppression of Sexual Behaviour · By mouth (once daily for 3-5 days): Male cat only. Do not use for genitourinary disease, tumors, sexual immaturity or other label contraindications. Long use may alter temperament, enlarge mammary glands and increase appetite/weight. Progestin treatment of sexual behaviour is a last-resort role because diabetes, adrenal suppression, mammary disease and other endocrine/reproductive adverse effects can outweigh behavioural benefit. Investigate medical and environmental causes and use a behaviour plan. • Estrus Prevention · By mouth (once every 14 days; estrus usually returns about 21 days after stopping): Bitch only. The label gives 1 tablet per 10 kg; if the calculated fraction cannot be measured reliably from this scored tablet, do not improvise a smaller piece. Do not use for genitourinary disease, tumors, sexual immaturity, pregnancy/lactation, or first estrus. Do not repeat or extend the regimen without reproductive examination and monitoring; first estrus, pregnancy, lactation, immaturity, tumors and genitourinary disease remain excluded.
  • Estrus Interruption · By mouth (once daily for 7 days from the first signs of sexual arousal): Bitch only. Do not start if more than 3 days have passed since estrus began. If the calculated tablet fraction cannot be measured reliably, use a more suitable presentation rather than guessing. • Post-mating Contraception · By mouth (once daily for 2 days after mating): Bitch only. This is 2 tablets per 5 kg at each daily administration, not the lower estrus-prevention dose. Post-mating hormonal treatment requires veterinary assessment; exclude pregnancy and reproductive/genitourinary disease. Hard evidence boundary: no controlled exact-product post-mating efficacy study was found.
