vetman assessment
vetman’s 10-point assessment brings together a product’s regulatory credibility, clinical efficacy, safety and practicality. Cost-effectiveness is assessed only when reliable data are available. It is informational and does not replace a veterinarian’s clinical judgment for an individual patient.

CANGLOB DHLaPPi

polyvalent immunoglobulin injection, 6 ml vial for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Complete dog label: short-lived passive immunisation and adjunct treatment/outbreak prophylaxis against CDV, CAV/laryngotracheitis, CPV enteritis and CPiV, including an incompletely identified infectious syndrome · IM,IV,SC
Care settingVeterinarian-administered outbreak or inpatient adjunct after diagnostic and severity assessment, with immediate hypersensitivity readiness and full disease-specific care
vetman score 5.8/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 1-03/22 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A traceable authorised short-lived passive-immunoglobulin option, but not an active vaccine and not a proven stand-alone antiviral treatment. Its best defensible role is a veterinarian-selected adjunct or immediate-exposure bridge; broad label wording is weakened by sparse exact-product evidence and negative higher-quality CPV plasma trials.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.5/10

The exact product, four antibody titres, route and regimen are transparent and currently authorised in Georgia and multiple EU/EEA states. Public exact-product outcome evidence is absent and GB/US exact authorisation is absent.

Clinical efficacy4.0/10

Passive antibody has biologic plausibility and some early experimental support, but independent evidence is mostly CPV-only and inconsistent: two better clinical immune-plasma trials found no meaningful benefit. Exact DHLaPPi and its CDV/CAV/CPiV treatment or broad undiagnosed-syndrome claims lack controlled outcome validation.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

A long authorised label and double-dose observation provide some reassurance, but heterologous protein can cause rapid allergy/anaphylaxis, especially after repeat exposure. Critically ill, repeated-treatment, reproductive and concomitant-use evidence remains limited.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Weight-based injection is simple in a prepared clinic and three routes offer flexibility, but 0.4 ml/kg is high-volume, treatment is daily, protection is only about five days and a 6 ml vial covers just 15 kg. Cold chain, 10-hour in-use life, repeated restraint/venous access and anaphylaxis observation add workload.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Important safety and use flags

  • This is heterologous passive immunoglobulin, not a vaccine. Labelled antibody protection lasts about 5 days and does not create durable active immunity or complete a puppy/adult vaccination series.
  • Complete-label evidence boundary: independent controlled evidence is largely CPV-only and inconsistent; exact DHLaPPi CDV/CAV/CPiV treatment and broad unidentified-agent claims are not independently validated.
  • Dose is 0.4 ml/kg IM, IV or SC, maximum 0.4 ml/kg/day. Treat daily until improvement or use every 5 days only for immediate outbreak prophylaxis; the veterinarian selects route and duration from diagnosis, severity, course, prognosis and risk.
  • IV gives immediate and greatest antibody availability; IM/SC is later and weaker. Do not interpret route availability as equivalent evidence of outcome, and use appropriate asepsis, restraint, catheter and monitoring standards.
  • Never substitute CANGLOB for diagnosis, isolation, active vaccination or full disease-specific supportive care. In CPV, fluid/electrolyte, nutrition, antiemetic, analgesic and sepsis/bacterial-translocation management remain outcome-critical.
  • Lethargy, anorexia and fever can occur. Rare allergy or anaphylaxis may begin within minutes to hours, particularly after repeat heterologous-protein exposure; observe, keep emergency treatment ready and report serious events.
  • Do not repeat prophylactically in a sensitised dog or after a prior allergic/anaphylactic reaction. A double-dose label observation does not remove uncertainty in critical illness, repeated courses, very young animals or organ dysfunction.
  • Avoid active vaccination against the covered diseases during treatment and for at least 7 days afterwards. Passive antibody can interfere with vaccine response; reschedule and document active immunisation deliberately.
  • Pregnancy use is allowed, but avoid late pregnancy or immediate postpartum use. Maternal administration provides little antibody transfer to offspring and must not be presented as reliable litter protection.
  • Handling: warm and shake, withdraw aseptically, never mix with another product, store at 2-8 C protected from light, do not freeze, reject a damaged closure and use an opened vial within 10 hours. One 6 ml vial covers only a 15 kg dog per dose.
