A good core-plus-four-serogroup leptospirosis vaccine; the coronavirus fraction adds little. Where available, the same product without coronavirus is the cleaner choice.

The live core antigens and four-serogroup leptospiral fraction are strong, but the added inactivated coronavirus component targets a usually mild infection that WSAVA does not recommend vaccinating against.

Benefit-risk is favourable in healthy dogs, but the label warns of anaphylactoid reactions, an extra inactivated antigen adds exposure without clear benefit, and pregnancy use is excluded.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use in pregnant bitches. Vaccinate only healthy dogs aged 6 weeks or more.
  • Anaphylactoid reactions can occur. Keep epinephrine and supportive treatment ready and observe the dog after vaccination.
  • WSAVA does not recommend enteric coronavirus vaccination; this fraction does not protect against parvovirus or respiratory coronavirus.
  • Maternal antibody can block the puppy response: continue boosters every 2-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age or later.
  • Leptospiral protection is serogroup-specific and lasts about one year; it does not cover Australis.
  • Store at 2-8 C, do not freeze and use the whole reconstituted dose immediately; do not mix with other products.
