A useful authorised IM/IV canine sedative with clear exact dose rows, but substantial alpha-2 risk and incomplete analgesia keep it conditional and fully monitored.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.5/10

The exact 50 ml presentation has current Georgian registration and a valid Romanian stand-alone authorisation with transparent formulation, dog routes and dose ranges. One-country EU breadth and limited exact-product outcomes cap credibility.

Clinical efficacy7.0/10

Established xylazine pharmacology and direct canine studies support reliable dose-dependent sedation; exact IM and IV options add flexibility. Response varies, modern protocols often prefer more selective alpha-2 agonists, and xylazine is not dependable stand-alone surgical analgesia.

Safety and tolerability5.0/10

Bradycardia/AV block, biphasic blood pressure, reduced cardiac output, arrhythmia, respiratory depression, emesis, temperature change, hyperglycaemia and rare arrest require strict selection and full monitoring. IV dosing demands particularly controlled titration.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

Single IM or titratable IV administration and a familiar concentration are operationally useful, with distinct protocol rows already available. Accurate small-volume measurement, fasting/airway planning, combination reconciliation and fully staffed monitoring/recovery remain substantial.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian full-course price and vial-wastage data were unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Use only after examination in a monitored veterinary setting. Record exact weight, 20 mg/ml concentration, route, protocol-specific dose, co-drugs and times; do not interchange the IM, IV or premedication rows.
  • Do not use with GI obstruction, significant cardiac disease/ventricular arrhythmia, respiratory insufficiency, hepatic/renal impairment, seizure history, hypotension/shock or diabetes; avoid in puppies/kittens under six weeks.
  • Dog sedation is 1–2 mg/kg IM or 0.5–1 mg/kg IV once; ketamine premedication is a separate 1–2 mg/kg IM row. Use the lowest effective dose and never substitute one route/protocol range for another.
  • Monitor ECG/rhythm, heart rate, blood pressure, oxygenation, ventilation, temperature and sedation depth continuously through recovery. Bradycardia/AV block can be severe; pressure may rise then fall while cardiac output decreases.
  • Vomiting commonly occurs within minutes. Use an individual fasting plan, protect the airway and position/recover the patient to reduce regurgitation and aspiration risk; fasting does not eliminate that risk.
  • Xylazine alone is not reliable surgical analgesia or general anaesthesia. For painful procedures provide local/general anaesthesia and multimodal analgesia, reducing all interacting sedative/anaesthetic doses to effect.
  • Other CNS depressants are additive. Do not combine with epinephrine or other sympathomimetics because ventricular arrhythmia may follow; reconcile every component of ketamine protocols before administration.
  • Brachycephalic airway disease can cause life-threatening dyspnoea; deep-chested breeds may bloat. Pregnancy requires benefit–risk assessment and late-pregnancy use is contraindicated except at parturition.
  • Alpha-2 antagonism may reverse selected effects but does not erase aspiration, hypoxaemia, arrhythmia, temperature, fluid, pain or co-anaesthetic risk. Calculate the reversal protocol and continue monitoring for haemodynamic change or re-sedation.
  • Prevent self-injection, ingestion and skin/eye/mucosal exposure; seek urgent medical advice after exposure and do not drive. Track opening/sterility of the multidose vial, store per label and do not use a contaminated or expired vial.

Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · Verified on 22 Oct 2026

The intended feline mg/kg regimen is pharmacologically plausible, but an official twofold volume contradiction creates a serious preventable dosing hazard and materially weakens the exact product.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The exact presentation is registered in Georgia and Romania with transparent formulation, but its official cat text contains a twofold conflict between 1–2 mg/kg and 0.1–0.2 ml/kg at 20 mg/ml. Reconciliation is possible, yet this material medication-error defect lowers exact-label credibility.

Clinical efficacy6.5/10

The valid exact authorisation and established alpha-2 effect support feline sedation, but modern direct feline outcomes are limited. The intended mg/kg range is plausible; efficacy does not validate the contradictory printed volume or make xylazine complete anaesthesia.

Safety and tolerability4.0/10

The same major alpha-2 cardiopulmonary, emetic, metabolic and reproductive hazards apply, while the label volume conflict could double the intended feline dose. Independent mg/kg-to-volume calculation and double-check are hard safety requirements, not optional clarification.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

A single IM/SC injection is physically simple, but the official twofold volume discrepancy makes routine use error-prone. Small-volume measurement, an independent calculation/double-check, vomiting/airway preparation, combination reconciliation and full recovery monitoring impose high clinical burden.

Important safety and use flags

  • Dosing conflict: use 1–2 mg/kg, which equals 0.05–0.1 ml/kg at 20 mg/ml. Do not use the Romanian SPC printed 0.1–0.2 ml/kg because it equals 2–4 mg/kg. Independently calculate and double-check before injection.
  • Do not use with GI obstruction, significant cardiac disease/ventricular arrhythmia, respiratory insufficiency, hepatic/renal impairment, seizure history, hypotension/shock or diabetes; avoid in puppies/kittens under six weeks.
  • Cat sedation is 1–2 mg/kg IM/SC once after resolving the volume conflict; ketamine premedication is a separate lower 0.5–1 mg/kg IM row. Do not merge these protocol doses or automatically repeat.
  • Do not use in late pregnancy because uterine contraction and premature labour may occur; earlier pregnancy requires explicit benefit–risk assessment. Anticipate hyperglycaemia and polyuria.

Information not fully verified Veterinarian-administered sedation/premedication. Dog sedation: 1–2 mg/kg IM or 0.5–1 mg/kg IV once. Cat sedation: use 1–2 mg/kg IM/SC, which equals 0.05–0.1 ml/kg; reject the internally conflicting 0.1–0.2 ml/kg printed in the Romanian SPC. Separate ketamine-premedication rows are dog 1–2 mg/kg IM and cat 0.5–1 mg/kg IM. Independently calculate, double-check and monitor every dose.

  • Sedation · Intramuscular / Subcutaneous (once): Use the explicit 1–2 mg/kg figure: at 20 mg/ml this equals 0.05–0.1 ml/kg IM or SC once. The Romanian SPC also prints 0.1–0.2 ml/kg, which would equal 2–4 mg/kg and conflicts twofold; do not use that volume. Independently calculate and double-check before administration.
  • Premedication · Intramuscular (once): Premedication protocol dose: xylazine 0.5–1 mg/kg IM once with separately calculated atropine/ketamine under full anaesthetic monitoring. Do not substitute the higher sedation row or the internally conflicting printed cat volume.
