Known Drug Interactions

  • Contraindicated Meloxicam + Prednisolone
Concomitant use of corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can worsen gastrointestinal ulceration.
Recommendation: Do not administer together. Observe an appropriate washout period when switching and monitor for melena, vomiting, and reduced appetite.
    Sources: Product label
  • Contraindicated Meloxicam + Robenacoxib
Do not give robenacoxib together with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids because adverse gastrointestinal and renal effects may increase.
Recommendation: Do not use these drugs together. Allow a treatment-free interval of at least 24 hours after the previous anti-inflammatory drug, extending it when required by that drug’s pharmacokinetics.
  • Major warning Meloxicam + Carprofen
Do not give other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids concurrently with carprofen or within 24 hours of treatment because gastrointestinal ulceration or perforation may occur.
Recommendation: Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another or when switching from corticosteroid use to NSAID use.
    Sources: FDA
  • Major warning Meloxicam + Dexamethasone
The concomitant use of this veterinary medicinal product with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs may exacerbate gastrointestinal tract ulceration.
Recommendation: Avoid concurrent administration. Observe an appropriate washout period when switching. If both are essential, provide gastroprotection and monitor gastrointestinal signs closely.

ADOCAM

Meloxicam 1.5 mg/ml oral suspension for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full labelled canine oral scope for alleviation of inflammation and pain in acute and chronic musculoskeletal disorders · By mouth
Care settingVeterinary-prescribed home oral NSAID treatment after patient screening, with measured response, toxicity surveillance and periodic reassessment for longer courses
vetman score 7.9/10 Good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 300-11; 320-11; 321-11 · Verified on 20 Oct 2026

A well-supported, precisely dosed once-daily oral NSAID for the labelled canine acute and chronic musculoskeletal scope. Its strong regulatory and efficacy foundation is balanced by the established gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic risks of systemic NSAID therapy; careful patient selection, lowest-effective-dose use, monitoring and multimodal rehabilitation remain essential.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.5/10

The exact dog-only 1.5 mg/ml suspension has a valid Spanish authorisation in the EU Union Product Database, current official product information, and active Georgian veterinary registrations for 10, 25 and 125 ml packs. It is an Article 13(1) generic with a clearly identified marketing-authorisation holder and manufacturing site; the older GB authorisation has expired and is not counted as current.

Clinical efficacy8.5/10

Randomized placebo-controlled and comparator trials support clinically meaningful improvement in canine osteoarthritis and chronic musculoskeletal pain with oral meloxicam, including the labelled 0.2 mg/kg loading and 0.1 mg/kg once-daily maintenance regimen. Evidence is mature and consistent, while individual response still requires objective reassessment and multimodal management.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

Canine meloxicam safety is well characterised, but gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, renal injury and hepatic reactions can be serious or rarely fatal. Risk rises with dehydration, hypovolaemia, hypotension, organ disease, overdose, prolonged exposure or overlap with another NSAID, corticosteroid or nephrotoxic treatment.

Clinical practicality8.5/10

Once-daily dosing, a ready 1.5 mg/ml suspension, food administration and the supplied kg-calibrated syringe make home delivery and weight-based measurement straightforward. The bottle must be shaken, day-one volume doubled correctly, response checked within 3-4 days, and longer treatment coupled to risk-based clinical and laboratory monitoring.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • This assessment is for exact ADOCAM 1.5 mg/ml oral suspension in dogs and its full labelled acute/chronic musculoskeletal scope. It does not transfer to cats, another concentration, an injectable product or an unidentified meloxicam presentation.
  • Shake well and give with food. Give 0.2 mg/kg once on day 1, then 0.1 mg/kg every 24 hours from day 2. The supplied kg-calibrated syringe measures the maintenance volume, so the day-one volume is twice the marked body-weight dose.
  • Clinical response is usually expected within 3-4 days. If no improvement is evident, stop no later than day 10 and reassess the diagnosis, pain source, adherence and treatment plan rather than continuing automatically.
  • Do not use with gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, impaired hepatic, cardiac or renal function, haemorrhagic disorders, or known hypersensitivity to meloxicam or another NSAID.
  • Avoid in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive dogs because renal toxicity risk is increased. Correct perfusion and hydration deficits and assess renal risk before treatment.
  • Do not combine with another NSAID or glucocorticoid. After prior anti-inflammatory treatment, use a veterinarian-determined washout of at least 24 hours and extend it when the previous product pharmacology requires.
  • Use particular caution with anticoagulants, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, aminoglycosides and other potentially nephrotoxic or highly protein-bound medicines; review the complete medication and anaesthetic plan before starting.
  • Stop and reassess promptly for anorexia, apathy, vomiting, diarrhoea, melaena or other faecal blood, altered drinking/urination, jaundice or suspected NSAID toxicity. Adverse reactions are usually early but may rarely be serious or fatal.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or lactation or in dogs younger than 6 weeks. Safety has not been established in these groups.
  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration. For chronic treatment, document baseline and interval renal, hepatic and haematologic assessment, objective pain/function response, body weight and concurrent multimodal measures.

vetman score 6.2/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000630 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A situational generic meloxicam injection: the drug is a proven analgesic, but product equivalence is unverified and the 100 ml cattle-sized vial is impractical for small-animal work. An EU-authorised small-volume meloxicam or robenacoxib injection is preferable.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

The exact 100 ml vial is registered in Georgia (000630, valid to 2029) with a current Turkish manufacturer label whose dog and cat doses mirror the EU reference (Metacam), but it has no EU, UK or US authorisation documented in the reviewed evidence and no public bioequivalence data.

Clinical efficacy7.0/10

Meloxicam 0.2 mg/kg is a well-proven perioperative and musculoskeletal analgesic in dogs and is supported by pain guidelines; the formulation's equivalence to the reference is assumed, not shown.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

NSAID risks are real: the label excludes dogs under 6 weeks, pregnant or lactating, dehydrated or hypotensive dogs, and liver, heart, kidney, bleeding or gastrointestinal disease, and bans combination with glucocorticoids, other NSAIDs or anticoagulants.

Clinical practicality6.5/10

At 0.04 ml/kg a single injection is easy to draw up, but a 100 ml multi-species vial is far more than a small-animal clinic usually uses, so expect long storage or discard after broaching.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive dogs, in pregnancy or lactation, under 6 weeks, or with liver, heart, kidney, bleeding or gastrointestinal disease.
  • Do not combine with glucocorticoids, other NSAIDs or anticoagulants; avoid nephrotoxic drugs and allow a washout when switching NSAIDs.
  • Support blood pressure and fluids under anaesthesia, and check kidney values before use in older dogs.
  • One injection only; continue after 24 hours with an oral veterinary meloxicam product if needed.
  • The same vial is labelled for cattle; record the broach date and keep to the labelled in-use period.

Care settingClinic injection at anaesthetic induction in a hydrated, normotensive cat over 2 kg and 6 weeks with normal kidney function
vetman score 5.6/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000630 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option for cats: meloxicam works, but the tiny dose volume from a concentrated 100 ml multi-species vial invites overdose. Use a cat-sized EU-authorised meloxicam or robenacoxib product where available.

Clinical efficacy6.5/10

A single 0.3 mg/kg meloxicam dose before surgery is a proven postoperative analgesic in cats; equivalence of this formulation to the reference is assumed, not shown.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

Cats are sensitive to NSAIDs and kidney risk rises with dehydration or hypotension under anaesthesia; at 5 mg/ml the dose is only 0.06 ml/kg, so a small measuring error becomes a large overdose.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

A 4 kg cat needs 0.24 ml, which requires an insulin or 1 ml syringe, and the 100 ml cattle-sized vial is poorly suited to feline practice.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use under 2 kg or 6 weeks, in pregnancy or lactation, or with liver, heart, kidney, bleeding or gastrointestinal disease; avoid dehydration and hypotension.
  • Measure 0.06 ml/kg with an insulin or 1 ml syringe; never estimate the volume.
  • Do not follow with oral meloxicam or another NSAID, and do not combine with glucocorticoids.
  • Give IV fluids and monitor blood pressure under anaesthesia; check kidney values in older cats.
  • The same vial is labelled for cattle; record the broach date and keep to the labelled in-use period.

vetman score 7.8/10 Good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 331-11, 000630 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

An effective established injectable canine NSAID for peri-operative and acute musculoskeletal pain when hydration, renal/GI risk and concurrent analgesics are actively managed.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.5/10

The exact Bioveta formulation is registered in Georgia and has current official EU product information; meloxicam also has mature international regulatory review and long clinical use.

Clinical efficacy8.5/10

Randomized and comparative studies support clinically meaningful analgesic and anti-inflammatory efficacy in canine osteoarthritis and musculoskeletal pain, with extensive class-level experience.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

The safety profile is well characterised but not benign: gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, renal injury and hepatic reactions can be serious, especially with dehydration, comorbidity, overdose or NSAID/corticosteroid overlap.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

Injection is useful when oral dosing is unsuitable and allows controlled peri-operative use, but requires veterinary administration and careful timing around anaesthesia and fluid status.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not combine with another NSAID or corticosteroid and do not switch without an appropriate veterinarian-determined washout period.
  • Avoid in dehydrated, hypovolaemic or hypotensive animals and in patients with gastrointestinal ulceration or significant renal, hepatic, cardiac or coagulation disease unless a specialist benefit-risk decision supports use.
  • Stop treatment and reassess promptly for vomiting, diarrhoea, melaena, anorexia, lethargy, altered drinking/urination, jaundice or other suspected NSAID toxicity.
  • Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest necessary duration and obtain baseline/interval renal, hepatic and haematologic assessment according to patient risk and course length.
  • For cats, this assessment covers only the labelled single injection: do not administer an additional injectable or oral meloxicam dose unless a separate locally authorised feline regimen explicitly permits it.

Assessed clinical scopeCat · Full labelled feline injectable scope for postoperative pain after ovariohysterectomy and minor soft-tissue surgery · Subcutaneous
Care settingSingle-dose veterinarian-administered peri-operative NSAID analgesia in a well-hydrated, screened cat as part of multimodal pain control
vetman score 7.2/10 Good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 331-11, 000630 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

An evidence-based single-dose feline peri-operative NSAID option, but the narrow safety margin and repeat-dose hazard make strict screening, hydration and multimodal planning non-negotiable.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.5/10

The exact 5 mg/ml Bioveta injection is registered in Georgia with current official EU product information, and injectable meloxicam has mature international regulatory review in cats.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

Randomized peri-operative trials support single-dose analgesic activity, but efficacy varies by procedure and comparator and meloxicam should remain one component of multimodal analgesia rather than sole rescue coverage.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

Cats have a narrow NSAID safety margin; renal injury and gastrointestinal toxicity are major concerns with hypovolaemia, hypotension, renal disease, overdose or repeat dosing. The assessed role is strictly the labelled single injection.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

A single veterinary injection is straightforward within an anaesthetic protocol, but timing, hydration and the absolute prohibition on unplanned repeat dosing require disciplined workflow.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not combine with another NSAID or corticosteroid and do not switch without an appropriate veterinarian-determined washout period.
