  • Warning
Oclacitinib is not recommended during pregnancy or in dogs intended for breeding.
  • Warning
Oclacitinib is not recommended during lactation.

Apoquel

Oclacitinib 3.6 mg, film-coated tablet for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full labelled canine scope: control of pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and treatment of clinical manifestations of atopic dermatitis · By mouth
Care settingVeterinary-directed outpatient dermatology treatment after investigation of underlying causes and infection
vetman score 8.4/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 138-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A fast, strongly evidenced standard for the full labelled canine allergic and atopic dermatitis scope, provided causes and infections are managed and immunomodulatory risks are monitored.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.5/10

All three exact strengths are covered by a current official SPC, central EU authorisation and active Georgian veterinary registration, with extensive trial and post-authorisation evidence.

Clinical efficacy9.0/10

Multiple randomised trials and specialist guidance show rapid, substantial control of allergic pruritus and atopic dermatitis; it controls manifestations but does not identify or remove the underlying trigger.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

Most dogs tolerate labelled dosing, but immunomodulation can increase infection susceptibility and aggravate neoplastic disease; age, weight, immune suppression, progressive malignancy and reproductive restrictions are material, with periodic CBC and chemistry monitoring recommended long term.

Clinical practicality8.5/10

Oral dosing is straightforward and scored tablets support half-tablet selection; twice-daily induction for up to 14 days, daily maintenance, exact weight-band combinations and three-day storage of a split half require active prescribing discipline.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use in dogs under 12 months, under 3 kg, with immune suppression such as hyperadrenocorticism, or with evidence of progressive malignant neoplasia.
  • Investigate and treat parasitic, bacterial and fungal causes or complications; monitor for infection and neoplasia during treatment.
  • For long-term maintenance, periodically monitor complete blood count and serum biochemistry and reassess individual benefit versus risk.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy, lactation or in breeding dogs; follow the exact weight-band table and use a divided half within three days.
