oral gel 30 ml, VetExpert
Assessed clinical scopeCat · Supportive local oral-mucosal use during or after feline viral upper-respiratory/oral disease; strongest evidence is FCV-positive chronic oral inflammation after dental care, while FHV support remains in-vitro · On the skin
Care settingVeterinarian-directed clinic/home gingival adjunct after diagnosis, with dental/supportive care, pain and nutrition assessment, exact pump-site instruction and four-week reassessment.

Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Medium
Georgia: Not a medicine · Verified on 22 Oct 2026
A genuinely studied local PSSNa concept with a small controlled FCV cat trial, but the commercial concentration is undisclosed and evidence does not yet support broad FCV/FHV, regeneration or standalone-treatment claims.
Regulatory and scientific credibility4.0/10
Exact product, INCI, device directions and linked studies are traceable, but no medicine dossier exists, PSSNa concentration/pump mass are undisclosed and the only clinical evidence is sponsor-linked without independently auditable commercial-to-study quantitative equivalence; the evidence gate therefore caps this axis at 4.0.
Clinical efficacy4.0/10
A small randomised double-blind placebo-controlled FCV field study supports a four-week local adjunct signal, but concurrent dental care, both-group viral decline, unchanged Oral Health Index, short follow-up, strain nonresponse, patent conflicts, sponsor linkage, unverified commercial-form equivalence and almost no FHV clinical data trigger the 4.0 evidence ceiling.
Safety and tolerability6.0/10
No adverse effects occurred in 14 PSSNa-treated cats over four weeks and formulation testing adds reassurance, but uncommon, long-term, repeat-course, kitten, reproductive, severe-disease, aspiration and excipient risks are not characterised.
Clinical practicality7.0/10
The silent pump and adherent local gel are workable once or twice daily, but painful oral disease can make restraint stressful and one pump is not a disclosed volume or PSSNa mass; eye/nasal delivery is inappropriate.
Full-course cost-effectiveness-
No verified current Georgian patient-adjusted four-week course price is available, so cost is excluded.
Important safety and use flags
- Local oral-support gel, not a systemic antiviral medicine or complementary feed. Medicine-authorisation status is not applicable and does not imply regulator-reviewed efficacy or safety.
- Adjunct only. Continue diagnosis-specific dental care, analgesia, hydration/nutrition, infection control and treatment of ocular, respiratory, systemic or secondary bacterial disease as indicated.
- The controlled field signal applies to 28 FCV-positive cats with chronic oral inflammation after standard dental treatment. It does not establish standalone treatment, prevention, transmission control, severe systemic FCV care or durable recurrence benefit.
- FHV-1 support is based on in-vitro entry inhibition; only four FHV-positive cats were available in the field population. Do not claim clinical FHV efficacy or replace established ocular/systemic care.
- Acatavir PSSNa concentration and mass/volume per pump are not public. The study used sterile formulation no. 3 as two drops once daily; commercial one-pump/site once- or twice-daily quantitative equivalence is not independently auditable.
- Several trial authors were affiliated with Acatavir Ltd, and use of PSSNa for cat flu is patented to co-authors. Treat the small positive trial as preliminary despite randomisation and blinding.
- For gingival/oral-mucosal use only. Do not apply to eyes or nose and do not improvise systemic, ophthalmic or intranasal delivery; the commercial gel is not an ophthalmic product.
- No adverse effects in 14 treated cats over four weeks cannot establish uncommon or long-term safety. Monitor oral irritation, hypersalivation, swallowing/aspiration, vomiting, appetite, pain, restraint stress and excipient sensitivity.
- Reassess at about four weeks with clinical oral examination and, when clinically meaningful, FCV/FHV testing. Stop earlier for deterioration, no tolerable administration or need for escalation.
- Exact safety in kittens, pregnancy, lactation, breeding cats, severe systemic disease and repeated or long-term courses is not established; use only after explicit individual benefit-risk review.
