Break Pro

1% cutaneous powder, 40 g for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label: treatment and control of flea, louse and tick infestation with a propoxur 1% powder dusted over the coat once or twice weekly · On the skin
Care settingOwner or clinic dusting of a healthy dog with gloves, dust mask and eye protection, alongside environmental control
vetman score 5.6/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 147-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option: an EU-authorised but dated carbamate powder with short action and owner exposure. Longer-acting spot-ons, collars or isoxazolines are easier and better supported.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The product has a current Bulgarian national authorisation with an SPC in the EU Union Product Database and is registered in Georgia for dogs (147-11); no independent product study was found.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

Propoxur is a long-used carbamate with flea and tick activity, but a powder gives short protection, has no measured dose and needs weekly repeats; modern guidelines favour longer-acting classes.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

The SPC allows use in pregnancy and lactation, but propoxur inhibits cholinesterase: high oral exposure causes cholinergic signs, and the dust exposes owners, children and other pets.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

Dusting the whole coat once or twice weekly for several weeks with gloves, mask and eye protection is laborious and the endpoint is qualitative.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not combine with organophosphates or other cholinesterase inhibitors; atropine sulfate is the antidote for cholinergic signs.
  • Do not use on damaged skin, in sick or convalescent dogs, or with ingredient hypersensitivity.
  • Watch for salivation, vomiting, tremor or miosis after grooming or ingestion of powder.
  • Avoid eyes, nose and mouth; wear rubber gloves, a dust mask and eye protection and keep children away.
  • Hazardous to fish and aquatic organisms; treat all in-contact animals and the environment.

vetman score 5.1/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 147-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option for cats: a carbamate powder outside the Georgian dog-only registration, with grooming-related toxicity risk. Prefer a cat-authorised fipronil, selamectin or isoxazoline product.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.0/10

The Bulgarian SPC in the EU database covers cats, but the Georgian registration (147-11) lists dogs only, so cat use in Georgia is outside the local registration.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

Propoxur has flea and tick activity, but a powder gives short protection, has no measured dose and needs repeated dusting.

Safety and tolerability4.5/10

Cats groom off and swallow powder and are more sensitive than dogs to cholinesterase inhibitors, so cholinergic toxicity is a real risk.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

Repeated whole-coat dusting with gloves, mask and eye protection is difficult in cats.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Carbamate in a cat: watch for salivation, vomiting, tremor, miosis or weakness; atropine sulfate is the antidote.
  • Do not combine with organophosphates, other carbamates or cholinesterase-inhibiting collars.
  • The Georgian registration lists dogs only; cat use relies on the EU SPC.
  • Do not use on damaged skin, in sick or convalescent cats, or with ingredient hypersensitivity.
  • Wear gloves, a dust mask and eye protection; hazardous to fish and aquatic organisms.

BREAK PRO

10 mg/ml medicated shampoo, 250 ml for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Complete authorised canine role: rinse-off control of external parasites with propoxur 10 mg/ml, without an invented named-parasite spectrum or residual interval · On the skin
Care settingAt-home rinse-off ectoparasite treatment selected by a veterinarian, with accurate weight/hair-length dosing, 3-5-minute contact, prevention of licking/exposure, household parasite control and reassessment before repetition
vetman score 6.4/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 144-11 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A transparent authorised rinse-off propoxur option for selected acute canine ectoparasite control, but evidence is old and formulation-mismatched, the public label gives no named spectrum or residual protection, and carbamate exposure plus environmental reinfestation prevent it from being a strong standalone programme.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.0/10

The exact strength, dog/cat dose, contraindications, reproduction, overdose, storage and operator precautions are transparent under current Georgian and valid Bulgarian/EU national authorisations. Public exact-product outcome and broad pharmacovigilance data remain limited, and the product is not registered in GB or the US.

Clinical efficacy5.5/10

Propoxur has coherent rapid adulticidal activity and an old controlled 0.1% shampoo study cleared fleas from treated dogs, but exact BREAK PRO is 1%, has no public controlled outcome trial, and its broad external-parasite label names neither targets nor residual duration. A rinse-off treatment is not a complete reinfestation-prevention programme.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

The exact label permits pregnancy/lactation, reports only unquantified pruritus/redness in hypersensitive animals and describes tolerance above the labelled topical dose. Propoxur still inhibits cholinesterase: ingestion, damaged skin, eye/mucosal contact and operator exposure can produce serious cholinergic toxicity, while post-market frequency is not public.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

A single 3-5-minute bath and rinse is feasible at home, but weight and hair-length dosing, a 20 ml ceiling for long-haired dogs, full coat coverage, eye/ear avoidance and prevention of licking require careful handling. No labelled residual interval or repeat schedule means environmental control and a planned longer-term strategy remain necessary.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian price for the exact 250 ml presentation and repeat-course cost were unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Complete scope: the exact label says external parasites in dogs and cats but does not name parasite species or a residual-protection interval. Do not promise a specific flea/tick/lice/mite spectrum, duration or prevention of reinfestation that the public SPC does not establish.
  • Dose on wet coat: short-haired dog 1 ml/kg; long-haired dog 1-2 ml/kg, maximum 20 ml total. A single 1 ml/kg dog row without the hair-length boundary is incomplete and must not be used blindly.
  • Distribute especially to axillae, hind limbs, back, nape, scapular area and tail, massage to rich foam for 3-5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and towel-dry. Avoid eyes, ears, nose and mouth and prevent licking throughout treatment and drying.
  • Do not use on damaged skin, in a sick or convalescent animal or with hypersensitivity. Pruritus/redness may occur in hypersensitive animals; stop, rinse and assess material irritation or systemic signs.
  • Propoxur inhibits acetylcholinesterase. Salivation, lacrimation, vomiting/diarrhoea, miosis, tremor, fasciculation, weakness, dyspnoea or seizures after ingestion or excess exposure are an emergency: decontaminate safely and obtain urgent veterinary toxicology care; atropine is the label antidote.
  • The SPC permits pregnancy and lactation and states no known interactions. This does not prove zero interaction risk: avoid unreviewed concurrent organophosphate/carbamate or other cholinesterase-inhibiting ectoparasiticides and calculate total exposure before combining products.
  • Independent shampoo evidence is old and used 0.1% propoxur, whereas exact BREAK PRO is 1%. It supports possible rapid flea knock-down only; it does not validate the exact broad label, residual duration, modern comparative efficacy or repeated-use safety.
  • A rinse-off shampoo does not treat the off-host flea population or supply a labelled sustained interval. Examine and appropriately treat all household animals, vacuum and wash bedding, address the environment and choose a continued preventive plan when risk persists.
  • Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses; avoid skin, eye, nose and mouth exposure. If exposed, rinse promptly and wash skin with soap and water. Keep children away during use and drying and prevent contamination of food, water and aquatic environments.
  • Store below 25 C in the original dry container protected from direct sunlight, mark first opening and discard after two months. Verify the exact 250 ml product, authorisation, lot and expiry; do not substitute BREAK PRO powder or a herbal shampoo with a similar name.

vetman score 5.9/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 144-11 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

An authorised feline rinse-off option with a clear exact dose, but only tiny old mismatched shampoo evidence, no labelled residual protection and explicit greater feline carbamate sensitivity. Careful bathing, licking prevention, environmental control and a sustained alternative plan determine whether its narrow acute role is acceptable.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

A tiny old study of five cats given 0.1% propoxur shampoo showed rapid flea clearance but no residual effect; exact BREAK PRO is 1% and lacks a public controlled feline outcome trial. The broad label names neither targets nor residual duration, so efficacy beyond acute selected use is uncertain.

Safety and tolerability5.0/10

The exact label permits pregnancy/lactation and reports topical overdose observation, but explicitly says cats are more sensitive to carbamates. Grooming/licking, damaged skin and mucosal exposure can turn a topical bath into clinically important cholinergic exposure, and adverse-event frequency is not quantified.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

One bath avoids a prolonged dosing course, but accurately holding and fully wetting a cat, maintaining 3-5-minute contact, rinsing, drying and preventing licking can be stressful and error-prone. The missing residual interval and repeat schedule also require environmental control and a separate sustained prevention plan.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian price for the exact 250 ml presentation and repeat-course cost were unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full canine label: control of Ixodes ricinus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks and Ctenocephalides canis/felis fleas for up to seven months with continuous collar wear · On the skin
Care settingContinuous home collar wear after ectoparasite-risk assessment; select the exact dog-size collar, allow two-finger clearance, inspect the fit and skin, and manage bathing and water exposure
vetman score 7.8/10 Good
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 322-11, 33-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A useful long-duration canine collar for the labelled flea and tick role, with direct evidence extending to roughly six or seven months. Its older evidence base and propoxur-related patient, household and environmental restrictions keep it below newer best-documented long-acting options.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.5/10

Both exact collar lengths are registered in Georgia and the formulation has current regulator-hosted product information, a transparent long authorisation history and direct product-family efficacy studies. The independent evidence base is nevertheless old and limited in scale.

Clinical efficacy7.8/10

The label supports flea and tick control for up to seven months. A 30-dog controlled study found over 95% immediate and over 93% residual Rhipicephalus efficacy through day 170, while a small 17-dog study supported prolonged flea and tick activity; broader modern comparative evidence is sparse.

Safety and tolerability6.8/10

Target-animal studies and regulator information support low clinically important absorption and uncommon label adverse reactions under correct use. The propoxur component adds meaningful carbamate restrictions, ingestion toxicity, reproductive uncertainty in the exact leaflet and substantial handler and environmental precautions.

Clinical practicality8.1/10

One correctly fitted collar provides continuous protection for up to seven months and begins acting within 24 hours. Continuous wear, regular fit and skin checks, removal for bathing or swimming, prevention of chewing and household-contact precautions create a manageable but material home-care burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • For dogs only. Do not use in puppies under three months, animals with skin injury, sick or convalescent dogs, or animals hypersensitive to propoxur, flumethrin or an excipient.
  • Do not use in animals with mechanical gastrointestinal or urinary obstruction, bronchial asthma, other pulmonary disease or cardiovascular disease because carbamates can contract smooth muscle.
  • Concurrent use of another acaricide or insecticide is not recommended.
  • Safety during pregnancy has not been established in the exact current leaflet; use only after an individual benefit-risk assessment.
  • Prevent chewing or ingestion. Carbamate poisoning can cause salivation, miosis, vomiting or diarrhoea; remove the collar and provide urgent veterinary treatment, with atropine identified by the leaflet as the antidote.
  • Check fit and skin, especially during the first days. Very rare local, systemic, gastrointestinal or behavioural reactions are reported; remove the collar and assess the dog if signs develop.
  • Activity begins within 24 hours and depends on continuous wear, coat condition, activity and infestation pressure. Occasional attached ticks may still be seen and can take up to three days to die.
  • Wash hands after fitting, avoid prolonged contact with the collar and treated coat, and keep children from touching, playing with or mouthing it. A collared dog should not sleep in the owner's bed, especially with children.
  • Remove the collar for bathing or swimming. The product is highly toxic to aquatic organisms, birds and bees; keep it out of watercourses and dispose of the cut-off length safely.
