Critical
Do not use in the case of cardiogenic shock and severe aortic stenosis.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD
-
Critical
Do not use in cases of severe hepatic failure. Special caution is required in patients with hepatic disease as amlodipine is highly metabolised by the liver. As no studies have been conducted in animals with liver disease, use of the product in these animals should be based on a benefit-risk assessment by the attending veterinarian.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD

Critical
Do not use in cases of hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD

Warning
Safety has not been tested in cats with cardiac failure. Use in these cases should be based on a benefit risk assessment by the veterinarian.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD

Warning
When amlodipine is given together with other drugs that lower blood pressure, measure blood pressure before starting and make sure the cat is adequately hydrated. Do not start a calcium channel blocker or a RAAS inhibitor in a dehydrated, unstable cat.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD · IRIS

Known Drug Interactions
-
Major warning
Amlodipine + Maropitant
The veterinary medicinal product should not be used concomitantly with Ca-channel antagonists as maropitant has affinity to Ca-channels.Recommendation: NoneSources: VMD SPC · VMD
-
Minor warning
Benazepril + Amlodipine
Both drugs lower blood pressure, so hypotension is theoretically possible when they are combined. In hypertensive cats treated with amlodipine and benazepril together, however, no hypotension caused by the combination has been observed.Recommendation: This combination is not prohibited and may be used when one agent does not adequately control blood pressure. Measure blood pressure before treatment and ensure adequate hydration. Target systolic pressure is below 160 mmHg; below 120 mmHg or weakness/tachycardia indicates hypotension.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD · IRIS
-
Minor warning
Telmisartan + Amlodipine
During concomitant therapy with amlodipine at the recommended dose, no clinical evidence of hypotension was observed.Recommendation: Combine amlodipine and telmisartan only when either drug alone does not control blood pressure adequately. Measure blood pressure before treatment, correct dehydration, and recheck regularly after stabilisation.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD · IRIS
-
Minor warning
Furosemide + Amlodipine
Concomitant use of amlodipine with other agents that may reduce blood pressure may cause hypotension. These agents include: diuretics, beta-blockers, other calcium channel blockers, inhibitors of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system... and alpha-2 agonists. may sometimes result in a decrease in serum potassium and chloride levelsRecommendation: Before combining amlodipine with these agents, measure blood pressure and ensure that the cat is adequately hydrated. Monitor electrolytes and hydration during treatment.Sources: VMD SPC · VMD · IRIS
-
Minor warning
Pimobendan + Amlodipine
Beta-adrenergic blockers such as propranolol or atenolol and calcium-channel blockers such as verapamil or diltiazem can reduce the positive inotropic effect of pimobendan.Recommendation: Monitor clinical response.Sources: Vetmedin SPC
