Known Drug Interactions

  • Major warning Amoxicillin + Doxycycline
The bactericidal effect of amoxicillin may be inhibited by the concomitant use of bacteriostatic antimicrobials.
Recommendation: If both are required, support the choice with culture and susceptibility results. Otherwise, choose one mechanism.
    Sources: VMD SPC · VMD
  • Major warning Amoxicillin + Oxytetracycline
Do not give oxytetracycline at the same time as bactericidal antimicrobials such as penicillins or cephalosporins because their antibacterial effects may be antagonistic.
    Recommendation: Do not administer concurrently.
  • Minor warning Amoxicillin + Dihydrostreptomycin
Penicillins may increase the effect of aminoglycosides.
Recommendation: An enhanced effect is expected; monitor for aminoglycoside toxicity. Do not mix in the same syringe.
    Sources: VMD SPC · VMD
  • Minor warning Amoxicillin + Trimethoprim/Sulfonamide
Concurrent use of bactericidal beta-lactam antibiotics and bacteriostatic antimicrobials such as sulfonamides is generally not recommended because their effects may be antagonistic.
    Recommendation: Avoid concomitant administration.

Amoxicillin Bioveta LA

LA Amoxicillin Bioveta 150 mg/ml, amoxicillin 150 mg/ml, long-acting suspension for injection
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Label-listed local, gastrointestinal, respiratory and urogenital infections caused by amoxicillin-susceptible organisms · Intramuscular
Care settingVeterinary clinic or supervised outpatient injection course
vetman score 6.8/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 1-03/144 · Verified on 22 Oct 2026

A transparent authorised once-daily canine IM amoxicillin option for a diagnosed susceptible infection, not a blanket choice for every broad label syndrome. Culture/resistance context, the exact daily course and clinic injection burden determine its value.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.5/10

The exact 150 mg/ml dog IM product has current Czech/EU authorisation, a full transparent SPC, exact Georgian registration and current manufacturer information. Independent exact-product outcome trials were not identified, and the broad clinical wording still rests on an older dossier.

Clinical efficacy6.0/10

Amoxicillin is effective against susceptible bacteria, and canine IM/depot PK plus newer SC PK/PD support a 24-hour concept for low-MIC isolates. Benefit is not broad-spectrum certainty: beta-lactamase producers and resistant staphylococci are excluded, exact-product outcomes are absent, and modern UTI, respiratory and skin guidance requires syndrome-specific selection, sampling and duration.

Safety and tolerability7.0/10

Amoxicillin has a wide therapeutic margin and the exact label permits pregnancy/lactation, with rare allergy and transient injection-site reaction described. Penicillin anaphylaxis can be severe, oily depot injection adds local burden, and renal vulnerability, microbiome effects and resistant-organism selection still require case selection and monitoring.

Clinical practicality6.5/10

Once-daily weight-based IM dosing is straightforward in a clinic and needs no reconstitution, but the suspension must be thoroughly shaken and drawn with dry sterile equipment. Repeated visits/injections, accurate small volumes and likely wastage from the 100 ml presentation materially limit practicality for many companion dogs.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian full-course price and dog-weight-specific vial wastage cost were unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Hard stop: do not use with penicillin/beta-lactam hypersensitivity. Rare allergy can progress to anaphylactoid collapse; keep an emergency response immediately available and stop at urticaria, facial swelling, dyspnoea, vomiting, hypotension or collapse.
  • Use only for a diagnosed or strongly suspected bacterial infection likely to be amoxicillin-susceptible. The exact label excludes penicillinase-producing organisms; plain amoxicillin does not cover beta-lactamase producers, resistant staphylococci, Pseudomonas or many Klebsiella/Enterobacter isolates.
  • Exact dog dose is 10 mg/kg = 1 ml/15 kg IM once daily. LA supports at least 24 hours of active blood level; it does not authorise dosing less often than daily or treating an infection with one injection. Set course length by syndrome, source control and response.
  • Obtain culture/susceptibility for recurrent, complicated, deep, severe, healthcare-associated, previously treated or poorly responding infection. Reassess diagnosis and therapy promptly if clinical improvement is absent or new lesions/signs develop.
  • Do not treat a broad label category alone: respiratory signs, diarrhoea, urinary signs or a skin lesion are not proof of susceptible bacterial infection. Apply current syndrome-specific diagnostics, source control and stewardship; avoid prophylactic or unnecessarily prolonged courses.
  • Shake thoroughly to a uniform suspension before every withdrawal. Use a dry sterile needle and syringe; water can hydrolyse the active. Do not mix in the same syringe or container with aqueous solutions or other medicines, and use aseptic multidose-vial technique.
  • A transient local injection reaction can occur. Give IM only, rotate/record sites during a course and inspect for persistent pain, swelling, heat, sterile abscess or tissue injury. The historical exact instruction limits a site to 20 ml; usual canine doses are much smaller.
  • Penicillins can be antagonised by bacteriostatic antibiotics such as tetracyclines or chloramphenicol. Do not combine routinely; if sequential or combined therapy is clinically justified, document pathogen, timing, compatibility and response.
  • The exact label permits pregnancy and lactation without restriction, but amoxicillin crosses the placenta and is renally eliminated. Individualise benefit–risk and monitor more closely in renal dysfunction, dehydration, neonates or patients receiving other renally cleared drugs.
  • Handler hazard: penicillins/cephalosporins can cause severe sensitisation after injection, inhalation, ingestion or skin contact. Sensitised staff should avoid handling; wear gloves, wash after use, avoid self-injection and obtain urgent care for swelling or breathing difficulty. Store below 25 °C, dry and light-protected; discard 28 days after opening.

A numerical dog/cat score cannot responsibly be calculated for this exact product. The Georgian register confirms Amoxicillin 150 by Hebei Lihua, but the old dog/cat statement and 7 mg/kg daily dose were borrowed from Norbrook Betamox rather than this product. Current Hebei Lihua information and an official Vietnamese imported-product record identify AMOXY 150 for cattle, goats, sheep and pigs only, with a different 15 mg/kg long-acting schedule. Equal 150 mg/ml concentration does not bridge formulation, excipients, target species, dose interval, safety or efficacy. Exact dog/cat label and outcome data are missing.

This is a documented veterinary product, but not a scoreable dog/cat presentation on current exact evidence. Its Georgian registration remains visible; the responsible correction is to block the borrowed calculator dose and disclose the species/formulation gap, not to invent a low score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Use only for a diagnosed or strongly supported bacterial infection caused by organisms likely to be susceptible to amoxicillin. Obtain culture and susceptibility whenever feasible and narrow or stop treatment when results do not support it.
  • This exact Hebei Lihua AMOXY 150 is not Betamox. Do not copy another 150 mg/ml product dose merely because concentration and active ingredient match; target species, oil vehicle, release profile and interval require exact-form evidence.
  • No dog or cat dose is established for this exact product. The calculator block is intentional; use a companion-animal-labelled alternative rather than the food-animal 15 mg/kg schedule or the borrowed Betamox 7 mg/kg schedule.
  • Do not use in a patient with known penicillin or cephalosporin hypersensitivity. Cross-reaction, urticaria and anaphylaxis are possible; stop treatment and provide emergency care for facial swelling, dyspnoea, hypotension or collapse.
  • Amoxicillin is ineffective against beta-lactamase-producing organisms and resistant isolates. Methicillin-resistant staphylococci, Pseudomonas and other intrinsically or acquired-resistant pathogens must not be inferred susceptible from a broad label list.
  • Review concurrent antimicrobials. Do not routinely combine a bactericidal beta-lactam with bacteriostatic tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, lincosamides or sulfonamides without a documented microbiologic and clinical rationale.
  • Use aseptic technique and prevent accidental self-injection. Penicillin-sensitised staff should not handle the product; human rash requires medical advice, while facial/lip/eye swelling or breathing difficulty requires urgent medical attention.
  • Exact dog/cat injection-site tolerance, maximum site volume, repeat-site guidance and preservative/in-use handling are not established publicly for this product. Do not infer them from the food-animal page or Betamox.
  • The current public exact-product material lists food animals and withdrawal periods, not dogs or cats. Georgian registration alone does not supply the missing companion-animal benefit-risk bridge.
  • Reassess clinical response within 48 hours, including source control and the possibility of a nonbacterial diagnosis. Avoid prophylactic or unnecessarily prolonged exposure; aminopenicillins are EMA Category D (Prudence), not resistance-free.

A numerical score cannot responsibly be assigned to this exact 7:1 suspension in dogs or cats. The prior 0.25 ml/kg row was transferred from 4:1 Synulox Drops because both contain 40 mg/ml amoxicillin, but Augmentin then supplies only 1.425 mg/kg clavulanate instead of 2.5 mg/kg. No exact-product dog/cat PK, target-animal safety, bioequivalence or clinical bridge was found. Accurate liquid measurement cannot repair an unvalidated component ratio.

The exact human label is transparent, but a product score would hide the missing veterinary bridge. The calculator is intentionally blocked; select an exact dog/cat formulation whose component ratio and regimen are validated.

Important safety and use flags

  • Use only for a diagnosed or strongly supported bacterial infection likely to be susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanate. Obtain culture and susceptibility whenever feasible and narrow, change or stop treatment when results do not support it.
  • Exact-product boundary: Augmentin 228 mg/5 ml is a 7:1 human suspension, not 4:1 Synulox Drops. Do not transfer the Synulox 0.25 ml/kg regimen by matching amoxicillin concentration alone.
  • No dog or cat calculator dose is published. At the old 0.25 ml/kg volume, this product supplies only 1.425 mg/kg clavulanate rather than the veterinary comparator dose of 2.5 mg/kg; accurate measurement does not validate the altered ratio.
  • Give at the start of a meal to reduce gastrointestinal intolerance. Monitor appetite, vomiting and diarrhoea; severe or persistent signs, haemorrhagic diarrhoea or clinical deterioration require prompt reassessment.
  • Do not use with known penicillin, cephalosporin or other beta-lactam hypersensitivity. Urticaria, facial swelling, dyspnoea, hypotension or collapse may indicate anaphylaxis and requires immediate treatment.
  • Do not assume clavulanate is needed whenever amoxicillin is selected. Use amoxicillin alone when beta-lactamase inhibition is not clinically justified, and avoid unnecessary broad-spectrum or prolonged exposure.
  • Review concurrent bacteriostatic antimicrobials and other medication before treatment. Tetracyclines, macrolides, chloramphenicol, sulfonamides and related combinations require a specific microbiologic and clinical rationale.
  • Renal impairment may require interval or regimen review. Avoid extrapolation in severe hepatic disease, dehydration or unstable patients; monitor clinical response and relevant renal, hepatic or haematologic variables when risk or duration warrants.
  • Reconstitute exactly as the label directs, shake before every dose, refrigerate at 2–8 C, do not freeze and discard after seven days. These handling instructions do not establish a veterinary dose.
  • Pregnancy, lactation, breeding and immature-patient use require explicit veterinarian benefit-risk review. Exact-product target-animal reproductive and developmental safety data are absent.

vetman score 6.9/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, human · № რ-043404 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026 Off-label use

A defensible extra-label option only for an appropriate susceptible infection in a dog whose calculated regimen matches a whole tablet. Exact identity and the 4:1 ratio are strengths; absent canine product data, antimicrobial-stewardship limits and poor dose-unit flexibility keep it situational.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.5/10

The exact 500/125 mg human product has current manufacturer and regulator-aligned prescribing information with composition, contraindications, interactions and subdivision limits. Current authorised veterinary 4:1 comparators verify the dog formulation concept and regimen, but Augmentin itself is not dog-labelled and exact-product canine outcome or bioequivalence data are absent.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

Amoxicillin/clavulanate has direct authorised dog indications and controlled veterinary comparator trials, with guideline support for selected susceptible infections. Benefit is diagnosis- and susceptibility-dependent; broad empirical use, transfer of every human indication, or clavulanate where amoxicillin alone suffices is not supported.

Safety and tolerability7.0/10

The beta-lactam combination is generally well tolerated but can cause gastrointestinal effects, hypersensitivity including anaphylaxis, microbiome disruption and selection pressure. Renal impairment, pregnancy/lactation, interacting antimicrobials and previous beta-lactam reactions require review; exact-product canine safety and fragment uniformity are untested.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

Twice-daily oral dosing is familiar, but the 500/125 mg unit fits only selected large dogs and indication-specific dose points. The score line is not an equal-dose divider, so the old half-tablet band is removed; smaller dogs require another validated strength or formulation.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current comparable full-course local prices were not verified.

Important safety and use flags

  • Use only for a diagnosed or strongly supported bacterial infection likely to be susceptible to amoxicillin/clavulanate. Obtain culture and susceptibility whenever feasible and narrow, change or stop treatment when results do not support it.
  • Exact-product boundary: each tablet is 500 mg amoxicillin plus 125 mg clavulanate. Do not substitute a different co-amoxiclav strength by matching only the amoxicillin number; component ratios and delivered clavulanate may differ.
  • Use only a whole tablet when the indication-specific calculated regimen fits. The line is for ease of swallowing, not equal-dose subdivision; do not restore the old half-tablet band or improvise smaller fragments.
  • Do not crush or pre-divide for dose measurement. Confirm that the dog can safely swallow the whole unit and use another validated strength or formulation when it cannot.

Not rateable

A numerical feline score cannot responsibly be assigned. The exact 625 mg tablet supplies 500/125 mg and the current SmPC says its line is only to ease swallowing, not to obtain equal doses. A whole tablet is not a credible typical feline unit, while a half or smaller piece would invent an unvalidated delivered dose. Strong class evidence does not make this presentation doseable in cats.

The active combination is established in cats, but this exact large human tablet is not. Prefer a veterinary strength or liquid that can deliver the calculated component doses without relying on unequal fragments.

  • No feline calculator dose is published. A whole 500/125 mg tablet is not a credible typical feline unit, and the exact label does not validate a half or smaller equal dose.
  • Do not crush or pre-divide for dose measurement. Confirm that the dog can safely swallow the whole unit and use another validated strength or formulation when it cannot.
  • Pregnancy, lactation, breeding and immature-patient use require explicit veterinarian benefit-risk review. Exact-product target-animal reproductive and developmental safety data are absent.

vetman score 6.8/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 287-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

The pharmacology is credible, but this exact presentation is only situationally acceptable until its 15-versus-30 ml identity conflict and exact instructions are resolved. Verify the physical pack and manufacturer leaflet before prescribing.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.5/10

The exact Aurobindo product is actively registered in Georgia, but its bilingual register row conflicts on 30 ml versus 15 ml and no exact public SPC was found; the clinical instructions come from Clavamox Drops, not this manufacturer.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

Amoxicillin/clavulanate suspension is established for susceptible canine skin, soft-tissue and periodontal infections, but exact-product efficacy is indirect and treatment must follow diagnosis and susceptibility.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

Class and comparator safety are established, but exact-product and reproductive safety documentation are limited; gastrointestinal reactions and beta-lactam allergy remain central.

Clinical practicality6.5/10

Liquid dosing can suit small dogs, but exact reconstitution, vigorous shaking, refrigeration, ten-day discard and the unresolved bottle-volume conflict materially increase error and waste risk.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use after penicillin or cephalosporin hypersensitivity; serious cross-reactions are possible.
  • The Georgian register conflicts on a 30 ml versus 15 ml bottle and no exact Aurobindo SPC is public; verify the physical product before use.
  • The displayed reconstitution and dose come from Clavamox Drops, not an exact Aurobindo instruction; do not transfer them without pack verification.
  • Treat only a diagnosed susceptible bacterial infection; use culture and susceptibility testing whenever feasible.
  • Comparator handling requires exact water addition, vigorous shaking, refrigeration and disposal after 10 days.
  • Safety in pregnant or breeding animals is not established in the comparator label.
  • Monitor anorexia, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhoea and allergic reactions; reassess inadequate response rather than extending empirically.

A doseable same-strength generic comparator supports cautious use near whole-tablet weight steps, but exact-product clinical transparency is limited. Culture, narrow-spectrum selection and whole-tablet accuracy are essential.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The exact Aurobindo product is actively registered in Georgia, but no exact public SPC or dossier was found; clinical details rely on a same-strength FDA generic comparator and the Georgian pack description contains ordering defects.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

The class is effective for susceptible canine skin, soft-tissue and periodontal infections, with bioequivalence evidence for the comparator generic; applicability to this exact Aurobindo presentation is indirect and susceptibility remains decisive.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

A plausible same-strength generic option, but the rating is deliberately restrained because the exact product lacks a public clinical SPC and the unscored 27.22 kg dose step is coarse. Do not treat comparator evidence as exact-product proof.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The exact Aurobindo product is actively registered in Georgia, but no exact public SPC or dossier was found; the dose and clinical scope rely on a same-strength FDA-approved generic comparator, while the Georgian register has a pack-description defect.

Clinical efficacy7.5/10

The class is effective for susceptible canine skin, soft-tissue and periodontal infections, and the comparator generic is bioequivalent to Clavamox; efficacy is indirect for this exact Aurobindo presentation and resistance still limits empirical use.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

Class and comparator safety are well characterised, with gastrointestinal reactions and beta-lactam hypersensitivity as key concerns, but exact-product safety documentation and reproductive safety are limited.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

One unscored tablet per 27.22 kg every 12 hours creates poor dose granularity for many dogs; the tablet should not be split to manufacture an unvalidated intermediate dose.

A strong, exact-label long-acting option when parenteral amoxicillin is genuinely indicated for a susceptible bacterial infection. Its regulatory transparency, simple concentration-specific regimen and direct canine PK/PD support are strengths; the broad syndrome list is not a substitute for susceptibility, resistant isolates may fail, and absence of clinical outcome trials prevents a very-high score.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

Exact Betamox LA has current Georgian registration and a current regulator-hosted UK authorisation for dogs and cats. The VMD dossier identifies composition, excipients, target species, indications, SC/IM route, concentration-specific dose, adverse-event frequencies, storage and 28-day in-use shelf life. US authorisation was not found, but this does not weaken the exact GE/UK label basis.

Clinical efficacy6.5/10

Amoxicillin is an established time-dependent aminopenicillin and the exact label supports 15 mg/kg SC/IM, repeatable after 48 hours for susceptible organisms. A recent five-dog 150 mg/ml SC PK/PD study supported prolonged exposure for susceptible Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, but resistant clinical isolates regrew and the study was not a clinical outcome trial. Broad legacy syndrome claims therefore require susceptibility and source-control context.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

The exact label states a wide penicillin safety margin, safe use during pregnancy/lactation, rare hypersensitivity including anaphylactic shock and very rare local swelling/pruritus. Important residual risks are irreversible depot exposure after injection, penicillin/cephalosporin cross-allergy, accidental human self-injection, aseptic handling of a preservative-free multidose vial and dose/site error; quantified exact-product companion-animal safety series are limited.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

A ready-to-use 0.1 ml/kg suspension can replace repeated daily dosing and needs at most one label-directed repeat after 48 hours. It still requires accurate weighing, vigorous shaking, an appropriately graduated syringe for small volumes, dry sterile equipment, site massage and rotation, cold-independent light-protected storage below 25 C and disposal 28 days after opening.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Use only for a diagnosed or strongly supported bacterial infection caused by organisms likely to be susceptible to amoxicillin. Obtain culture and susceptibility whenever feasible and narrow or stop treatment when results do not support it.
  • Verify Betamox LA 150 mg/ml before use. Do not substitute Betamox once-daily 150 mg/ml, another manufacturer’s 150 mg/ml suspension, oral amoxicillin or amoxicillin-clavulanate: formulation, exposure and dosing interval differ.
  • Give dogs and cats 15 mg/kg = 0.1 ml/kg SC or IM; repeat after 48 hours only if necessary. Do not administer IV or intrathecally, and do not continue after a second ineffective treatment without rechecking diagnosis and susceptibility.
  • Shake well, weigh accurately, use a dry sterile needle and appropriately graduated syringe, massage the site and use a different site for repeat dosing. Monitor for very rare swelling/pruritus and for pain, infection or sterile abscess.
  • The multidose vial contains no antimicrobial preservative. Swab the septum, protect from light, store below 25 C, record first opening and discard unused product 28 days later.
  • Reassess clinical response within 48 hours, including source control and the possibility of a nonbacterial diagnosis. Avoid prophylactic or unnecessarily prolonged exposure; aminopenicillins are EMA Category D (Prudence), not resistance-free.

A well-documented exact-label long-acting option for selected susceptible feline bacterial infections, with direct recent slow-release feline PK evidence. The small study does not prove clinical outcomes or universal 48-hour coverage, so susceptibility, accurate small-volume dosing and early response review remain essential.

Clinical efficacy6.0/10

The exact label supports 15 mg/kg SC/IM, repeatable after 48 hours. A recent six-cat study using Trymox LA 150 mg/ml directly describes slow-release SC pharmacokinetics, but found a short plasma half-life and explicitly notes that dosing needs depend on bacterial susceptibility. It is not an exact-Betamox clinical outcome trial, so efficacy confidence is lower than the broad label wording suggests.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

The exact label states a wide penicillin safety margin, safe use during pregnancy/lactation, rare hypersensitivity including anaphylactic shock and very rare local swelling/pruritus. Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 255-11 · Verified on 19 Oct 2026

A strong small-dog amoxicillin/clavulanate presentation with exact regulatory support and practical dose bands. Its broad spectrum is valuable only when susceptibility and syndrome justify clavulanate.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact chewable half-divisible presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed UK SPC covering indications, dose bands, resistance safeguards, safety and course duration.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

The combination is established for susceptible canine infections across the label and supported by current syndrome guidance. Benefit depends on susceptibility and source control; it does not cover Pseudomonas or MRSP and should not replace a narrower effective drug.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The expected profile is generally favourable; vomiting, diarrhoea, anorexia and allergy remain relevant, with strict avoidance in beta-lactam hypersensitivity and severe oliguric or anuric renal impairment.

Clinical practicality8.2/10

A palatable half-divisible tablet, clear 2-10 kg bands and direct-or-food administration make dosing practical; twice-daily courses and longer chronic-infection regimens still require reliable home adherence.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use after beta-lactam hypersensitivity; cross-reactions with penicillins and cephalosporins can be serious.
  • Do not use in severe renal impairment accompanied by anuria or oliguria.
  • Treat only a diagnosed susceptible bacterial infection; culture and susceptibility testing are preferred whenever feasible.
  • Do not use when narrow-spectrum penicillin or amoxicillin alone is expected to work; preserve clavulanate for beta-lactamase risk.
  • Do not expect activity against Pseudomonas spp. or methicillin-resistant staphylococci; reassess non-response rather than escalating blindly.
  • Monitor vomiting, diarrhoea, anorexia and allergic reactions; stop and treat significant hypersensitivity promptly.
  • Weigh accurately, use only the printed divisible-tablet bands, complete the selected course and reassess before doubling or prolonging treatment.

A practical, exactly documented small-cat presentation for confirmed susceptible bacterial disease. It should not be used as a default response to feline lower urinary or respiratory signs without evidence of bacterial infection.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact chewable half-divisible presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed UK SPC with feline indications, dose bands, resistance safeguards and safety information.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

The combination is established for susceptible feline infections, but feline urinary and respiratory signs are often non-bacterial. It does not cover Pseudomonas or MRSP and should follow diagnosis, culture when feasible and narrow-spectrum selection.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The expected profile is generally favourable; gastrointestinal signs and allergy remain relevant, with strict avoidance in beta-lactam hypersensitivity and severe oliguric or anuric renal impairment.

Clinical practicality8.2/10

The small palatable half-divisible tablet maps well to common feline weights and can be given directly or in a little food; twice-daily dosing and accurate halves still require adherence.

A well-supported medium-dog strength with exact half-tablet bands and broad susceptible-infection utility. Stewardship, source control and reassessment remain essential despite the convenient presentation.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact chewable half-divisible 200/50 mg presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed UK SPC with complete dose, resistance and safety information.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

The combination is established for susceptible canine infections across the label, but response depends on susceptibility and source control; it does not cover Pseudomonas or MRSP and is not justified when a narrower drug works.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The expected profile is generally favourable, with gastrointestinal reactions and allergy as the main concerns; beta-lactam hypersensitivity and severe renal impairment with anuria or oliguria are contraindications.

Clinical practicality8.1/10

Half-tablet 8-10 kg and whole-tablet 10-20 kg bands make this strength practical for medium dogs; twice-daily administration and longer selected courses remain an adherence burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

The medicine is clinically sound when susceptibility supports it, but this exact 200/50 mg presentation is a poor practical match for most cats. The score must not imply interchangeability with the smaller feline strength.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed UK SPC that includes cats, but the strength is only doseable from above 8 kg in the printed half-tablet bands.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

The active combination is established for susceptible feline infections, but bacterial disease must first be confirmed and the drug does not cover Pseudomonas or MRSP; broad empirical use is poor stewardship.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The expected profile is generally favourable, with gastrointestinal reactions and allergy as the main concerns; beta-lactam hypersensitivity and severe oliguric or anuric renal impairment are contraindications.

Clinical practicality6.8/10

The tablet is half-divisible but its first printed feline band is above 8-10 kg, so it is unsuitable for most cats; the 40/10 mg presentation is materially more doseable for typical feline weights.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

A well-documented large-dog strength with practical half-tablet bands and broad susceptible-infection utility. Culture, source control and the narrowest effective antimicrobial remain decisive.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact chewable half-divisible 400/100 mg presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed UK SPC with complete large-dog dose bands and safety information.

Clinical efficacy8.0/10

The combination is established for susceptible canine infections across the label, but efficacy depends on diagnosis, susceptibility and source control; Pseudomonas and MRSP are not covered and narrower therapy is preferred when adequate.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The expected profile is generally favourable, with gastrointestinal reactions and allergy as the main concerns; beta-lactam hypersensitivity and severe renal impairment with anuria or oliguria are contraindications.

A well-documented broad oral antibiotic for genuinely susceptible canine infections. Its score assumes diagnosis-led, narrowest-effective prescribing and falls if it is used empirically for non-bacterial disease or where amoxicillin alone would suffice.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.7/10

The exact divisible 40/10 mg product is actively registered in Georgia and has a current transparent EU regulator SPC; independent evidence is mainly at ingredient/class and syndrome-guideline level.

Clinical efficacy7.8/10

Amoxicillin/clavulanate is an established option for confirmed susceptible infections across the broad label, but efficacy depends on diagnosis and local susceptibility; it is not active against Pseudomonas or methicillin-resistant staphylococci and is often broader than necessary.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The therapeutic margin is generally favourable, but gastrointestinal reactions and uncommon hypersensitivity occur; beta-lactam allergy and severe renal impairment with anuria or oliguria are hard stops, and resistance selection matters.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

Twice-daily home dosing and a usual 5-7-day course are workable; the divisible tablet supports weight bands, but repeated administration, longer chronic courses and dose escalation only after reassessment add adherence and prescribing burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use after beta-lactam hypersensitivity; cross-reactions with penicillins and cephalosporins can be serious.

A well-supported oral option for confirmed susceptible feline bacterial disease, not a default treatment for undifferentiated respiratory, intestinal or lower urinary signs. Culture and the narrowest effective agent remain central.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.7/10

The exact divisible 40/10 mg product is actively registered in Georgia and has a current transparent EU regulator SPC; independent evidence is mainly class-level and syndrome-specific guidance.

Clinical efficacy7.8/10

The combination is useful for confirmed susceptible feline infections, but most young cats with lower urinary signs do not have bacterial cystitis, susceptibility varies, and the drug does not cover Pseudomonas or methicillin-resistant staphylococci.

Safety and tolerability7.8/10

The therapeutic margin is generally favourable, but gastrointestinal reactions and uncommon hypersensitivity occur; beta-lactam allergy and severe renal impairment with anuria or oliguria are hard stops.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

The small divisible tablet fits common feline weight bands, but twice-daily home dosing, accurate half-tablet use and longer selected courses still require adherence and reassessment.

Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000915 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A situational, reasonable first-line antimicrobial for small dogs: the composition and dose follow established amoxicillin-clavulanate practice. Its weaknesses are the local-only registration and the lack of bioequivalence data.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

The exact product is registered in Georgia (000915, valid to 2030) with a current NITA-FARM instruction; it has no EU, UK or US authorisation documented in the reviewed evidence, but its 4:1 composition and 12.5 mg/kg twice-daily dose match long-established authorised amoxicillin-clavulanate products.

Clinical efficacy6.5/10

Amoxicillin-clavulanate has strong independent evidence and is a WSAVA essential medicine and an ISCAID option for many skin, soft-tissue and urinary infections; the bioequivalence of this formulation is unproven.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

The class is well tolerated; vomiting, diarrhoea and penicillin hypersensitivity are the main risks, and the label asks for benefit-risk assessment in pregnancy and lactation.

Clinical practicality7.0/10

Quarter-tablet steps twice daily suit dogs of 0.5-5 kg; larger dogs need another strength, and clavulanate tablets must be kept dry in the blister.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use with penicillin or cephalosporin hypersensitivity, and never give to rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils or chinchillas.
  • Amoxicillin-clavulanate is EU AMEG Category C (Caution): plain amoxicillin is usually preferred for sporadic cystitis, and topical therapy alone often suffices for superficial pyoderma.
  • Do not combine with the bacteriostatic antimicrobials listed on the label.
  • Watch for vomiting, diarrhoea or allergic reactions and recheck if signs do not improve within a few days.
  • Dose by the combined 12.5 mg/kg; this 50 mg tablet covers only 0.5-5 kg.
