Active substance

Permethrin

Pyrethroid (type I) insecticide and acaricide. Registered in Georgia: 30 veterinary products. Forms: aerosol / spray, ear drops, solution, spot-on, topical (unspecified).

Cat: Use with caution
Concentrated dog spot-ons (typically 45-65%) are a major poisoning risk to cats. Some low-concentration formulations are specifically authorised for cats; use only the exact cat-labelled product and dose.

Cat

Signs: Tremors and muscle twitching (the most common sign), twitching of the ears and skin, hypersensitivity to touch, seizures, unsteadiness, dilated pupils, drooling, high or low body temperature.

Dog products containing permethrin must never be used on cats. Almost every poisoning is a concentrated dog spot-on (40-65% permethrin) put on a cat by mistake; close contact with a recently treated dog can also be enough. If it happens: wash the cat with a mild shampoo and get it treated at once; with intensive treatment most cats recover. No safe skin dose for cats is established.

Advantix

40 mg + 200 mg, imidacloprid 40 mg + permethrin 200 mg, spot-on solution for dogs up to 4 kg
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full labelled canine ectoparasite scope: treatment and prevention of flea, tick and biting-louse infestations plus repellent activity against specified ticks, sand flies, mosquitoes and stable flies · On the skin
Care settingVeterinary-selected outpatient ectoparasite control based on local epidemiology and household species
vetman score 8.0/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 314-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A broad and well-supported dog-only ectoparasite option with valuable repellency; household cat safety and exact weight-band application are non-negotiable.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The five exact strengths have current official SPC coverage and active Georgian veterinary registrations with exact authorisation numbers; independent field evidence is available.

Clinical efficacy8.5/10

The combination provides strong flea and tick control plus clinically useful repellent activity against multiple vectors, supported by field studies; duration and performance vary by parasite species, exposure and wetting.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

Canine tolerability is generally good, but permethrin exposure can be fatal to cats; transient skin, behavioural, gastrointestinal and rare neurologic reactions are recognised, and the product is highly hazardous to aquatic organisms.

Clinical practicality8.0/10

A weight-banded pipette gives roughly monthly protection, but correct multi-spot skin application, drying, temporary separation from cats, bathing constraints and epidemiology-based retreatment require more technique than a simple oral dose.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Never use on cats: permethrin is extremely poisonous and exposure can be fatal. Keep treated dogs away from cats until the application site is dry and seek veterinary help immediately after accidental feline exposure.
  • Do not allow treated dogs into surface water for 48 hours; the product is highly toxic to aquatic organisms.
  • Use the exact pipette for the dog's weight band and apply directly to intact skin at the labelled number of sites; do not use below the presentation's minimum weight or under seven weeks of age.
  • Choose retreatment by local epidemiology and lifestyle; frequent shampooing or water exposure may reduce persistence, and treated animals should not groom one another before drying.

Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label: ear mite infestation and external otitis, permethrin 0.05% with the claimed immunomodulator glucaminopropylcarbacridone, 3-5 drops per ear once daily for 3-7 days · Into the ear
Care settingOwner ear treatment after veterinary otoscopy confirms an intact eardrum and the cause of otitis
vetman score 4.3/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000877 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option: a low-dose permethrin ear drop with an unproven immunomodulator and no independent efficacy data. Use an authorised acaricide for ear mites and cytology-guided treatment for otitis.

Regulatory and scientific credibility3.5/10

The exact product is registered in Georgia (000877, valid to 2030) with a current AVZ instruction; glucaminopropylcarbacridone is a Russian 'immunomodulator' with no international authorisation, and the only efficacy data are the manufacturer's.

Clinical efficacy3.0/10

Permethrin has some acaricidal action, but no independent evidence supports 0.05% for 3-7 days against ear mites, and no credible evidence shows that the acridone component helps otitis.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

At this low concentration permethrin is low risk for dogs; the label excludes a perforated eardrum, safety data for the acridone component are limited, and treated dogs can expose cats in the household.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

Three to five drops per ear once daily for up to a week is easy, but both ears and all in-contact animals need treatment.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use with a perforated eardrum; check by otoscopy first.
  • Contains permethrin: never use on cats, and keep cats from grooming a freshly treated dog's ears.
  • For ear mites, prefer an authorised acaricide with proven efficacy and treat all in-contact animals.
  • For bacterial or yeast otitis, use cytology-guided treatment; the immunomodulator claim is unproven.
  • Treat both ears even if only one looks affected; clean first and massage the ear base after dosing.

Assessed clinical scopeCat · Cat use on the manufacturer label (ear mites and external otitis); VetMan sets no feline dose because the product contains permethrin · Into the ear
Care settingNot recommended for cats; use an acaricide authorised for cats instead
vetman score 2.9/10 Poor / unconvincing
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000877 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

Poor for cats: a permethrin product without credible feline authorisation or proven benefit. Do not use it on cats; choose an acaricide authorised for cats.

Regulatory and scientific credibility3.0/10

The product carries a feline label in Georgia (000877), but no internationally recognised regulator authorises it for cats, and VetMan does not accept post-Soviet instructions as enough evidence for permethrin use in cats.

Clinical efficacy2.5/10

No independent evidence supports 0.05% permethrin against ear mites in cats, and the immunomodulator claim is unproven.

Safety and tolerability2.0/10

Cats metabolise permethrin poorly and can develop tremor, seizures and death; even a low ear dose adds risk through grooming and repeated application, with no proven benefit.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

The drops are easy to instil, but VetMan shows no feline dose and authorised feline acaricides are readily available.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not use on cats: permethrin can cause tremor, seizures and death in cats.
  • If a cat is treated by mistake, wash off what is possible and watch for twitching, tremor or seizures; treat as an emergency.
  • Use an acaricide authorised for cats against ear mites and treat all in-contact animals.
  • No credible evidence supports the immunomodulator component.
  • Dog dosing for this product remains available in VetMan.

Arpalit Neo

4.7/1.2 mg/g cutaneous aerosol spray, 150 ml for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full Georgian dog presentation scope: whole-coat treatment of labelled flea, tick, louse and mite ectoparasitoses and their developmental stages with permethrin/fenoxycarb aerosol spray · On the skin
Care settingWhole-coat topical treatment selected after parasite confirmation and a patient, household, handler and environmental risk assessment
vetman score 6.9/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 328-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A regulated broad whole-coat option with useful four-week flea/tick activity, but it is materially less forgiving than a pipette. Exact coat-dependent dosing, feline lethality, handler exposure and aquatic risk must all be actively managed.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.7/10

The exact 4.7/1.2 mg/g 150 ml presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current EU regulator SPC. Documentation is detailed, but independent exact-combination clinical trials are sparse and the foreign SPC includes additional non-food species beyond the Georgian dog presentation.

Clinical efficacy7.2/10

The label provides broad ectoparasite treatment, immature-stage activity and up to four weeks against fleas and ticks. Permethrin class evidence is credible, but exact permethrin/fenoxycarb comparative evidence is thin and whole-coat underdosing may reduce efficacy and select resistance.

Safety and tolerability5.8/10

The label reports very rare but potentially neurologic and systemic reactions. Cats must not be exposed; aerosol inhalation and skin/eye exposure require PPE and ventilation, fenoxycarb is flagged as a potential human carcinogen, and both actives are hazardous to aquatic life.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Dose depends on weight, coat length and density and requires whole-body spraying, combing or massage to the skin. Gloves, sometimes eye/respiratory protection, ventilation, 24-hour child exclusion, 48-hour no-bath and two-day no-swim rules make use demanding.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Never use on cats and prevent cats contacting treated dogs; permethrin exposure can be fatal to cats.
  • Do not use in sick animals, puppies under 2 months, on damaged skin or with hypersensitivity; the foam and 6.0/1.5 mg/g spray are also contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
  • Dose and coverage depend on weight, coat length and density; treat the whole coat to the skin and avoid underdosing or empirical interval extension.
  • Use in a well-ventilated area with gloves; avoid inhalation and eye/skin/mucosal exposure. Fenoxycarb is flagged in the label as a potential human carcinogen.
  • Do not combine with other products containing pyrethroids or organophosphates.
  • Prevent licking; keep children away for at least 24 hours, do not bathe for 48 hours and keep the dog out of water for two days.
  • Monitor coat or skin change, vomiting, salivation, diarrhoea, tremor, seizure, abnormal gait, breathing or temperature; bathe with non-insecticidal shampoo and seek veterinary care if signs occur.

Arpalit Neo

4.8/1.2 mg/g cutaneous foam, 150 ml for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label: whole-coat treatment of labelled flea, tick, louse and biting-louse ectoparasitoses and their developmental stages with permethrin/fenoxycarb foam · On the skin
Care settingWhole-coat topical treatment selected after parasite confirmation and a patient, household, handler and environmental risk assessment
vetman score 6.8/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 330-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A legitimate treatment-only whole-coat option, but not a documented monthly preventive. Unmeasured coat-dependent application, absent persistence evidence and substantial feline, handler and environmental precautions keep it situational.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.6/10

The exact 4.8/1.2 mg/g 150 ml dog foam is actively registered in Georgia and has a current regulator-linked SPC. Documentation is detailed, but independent exact-combination clinical trials are sparse and persistence is explicitly unproven.

Clinical efficacy6.5/10

The combination has plausible adult and immature-stage activity and a broad treatment label, but the label states that duration against individual parasites has not been demonstrated. It should therefore be judged for parasites present at treatment, not assumed to provide a monthly prevention interval.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

Rare intoxication can include coat loss, vomiting, tremor, convulsion or slowed breathing. Cats, young puppies and pregnant or lactating bitches are excluded; whole-coat handler contact, a pressurised flammable container and aquatic toxicity add material risk.

Clinical practicality5.8/10

The tennis-ball-sized foam amount is adjusted by animal size and spread over the whole body to the skin, without a precise measurable dose or demonstrated retreatment interval. Gloves, ventilation, 24-hour child exclusion and 48-hour no-bath handling are burdensome.

Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 305-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A regulated broad treatment spray with credible active ingredients but incomplete exact-product persistence evidence. Its whole-coat technique and serious feline, handler and environmental constraints make it a situational rather than first-line convenience choice.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.7/10

The exact 6.0/1.5 mg/g 150 ml presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current EU regulator document. Exact-combination independent trials are sparse, and the foreign record includes some additional non-food species beyond the Georgian dog presentation.

Clinical efficacy6.8/10

The combination has plausible adult and immature-stage activity and a broad treatment label, but the current instruction does not establish a retreatment interval or persistent duration. Class evidence cannot substitute for exact-product residual-efficacy data.

Safety and tolerability5.8/10

Very rare reactions may be neurologic or systemic. Cats, sick animals, young puppies, pregnancy and lactation are excluded; whole-coat spray exposure, handler precautions, flammability and aquatic toxicity materially constrain safe use.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

The amount depends on coat length and density and requires whole-body spraying, combing or massage to the skin without a precise measurable regimen. PPE, ventilation, drying, 24-hour child exclusion, 48-hour no-bath and two-day no-swim rules are demanding.

Care settingExact weight-band monthly pipette after weighing and parasite-risk assessment; apply to one intact-skin site, prevent licking and separate from cats until dry
vetman score 8.4/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 174-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A well-documented broad canine ectoparasiticide with exact-product flea and tick studies plus useful vector repellency. Choose it for the combined clinical role, respect the delayed or incomplete protection against some vectors, and treat feline exposure prevention as mandatory.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

All four exact presentations are registered in Georgia and covered by current regulator-hosted product literature, valid multinational authorisations and a transparent exact-product hybrid dossier with dose-confirmation studies.

Clinical efficacy8.5/10

Exact-product GCP studies support four-week flea activity and persistent efficacy against the labelled ticks, while applicable controlled and field studies support the imidacloprid-permethrin vector role. Immediate tick efficacy was not demonstrated, duration varies by target and bites or transmission are not completely prevented.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

Healthy dogs tolerated the label dose and even five-fold overdose well in the dossier, with very rare canine reactions. The clinically important limits are potentially fatal feline permethrin exposure, reproductive uncertainty linked to N-methylpyrrolidone and aquatic toxicity.

Clinical practicality8.5/10

A single-site weight-band pipette provides roughly monthly control and is straightforward, but drying, cat separation, bathing timing, vector-onset limitations and seasonal repeat treatment still require planning.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Never use on cats. Permethrin exposure is extremely poisonous and can be fatal; keep treated dogs away until the site is dry and seek veterinary advice immediately if a cat contacts or grooms it.
  • Do not use below seven weeks of age, outside the exact presentation weight band or in known hypersensitivity. Weigh accurately and apply only to intact skin.
  • Single ticks or vector bites may still occur and pathogen transmission cannot be excluded. Mosquito repellency begins at day 7; keep dogs protected during the first 24 hours after the initial application for the Leishmania-risk claim.
  • Ticks already present may remain attached and alive for two days; remove them manually. Exact-product studies did not demonstrate immediate tick efficacy.
  • Very rare reactions include local pruritus, erythema, oedema or hair loss, behavioural or gastrointestinal signs and neurologic signs. Prevent licking; oral exposure may cause vomiting, tremor or incoordination.
  • Safety in pregnancy, lactation and breeding animals is not established, and N-methylpyrrolidone was foetotoxic in laboratory species; use only after veterinary benefit-risk assessment and consult before use in sick or debilitated dogs.
  • Keep treated dogs out of surface water for 48 hours. Frequent or prolonged water exposure may reduce persistence, shampoo should be used before treatment or at least two weeks later, and post-wetting tick efficacy is unstudied.
  • No medicinal interactions or major incompatibilities are known in the current product literature.

  • For the 2000 mg/400 mg presentation, pregnant women or women who may be pregnant must not administer the product; women of childbearing age should wear gloves because of the N-methylpyrrolidone content.

Care settingOwner-applied dog-only spot-on after accurate weighing and veterinarian/product selection; ear and mange regimens require diagnostic veterinary supervision
vetman score 4.9/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 001232 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A locally authorised dog spot-on with a plausible fipronil ectoparasite core, but no exact outcome programme and a very low permethrin exposure relative to regulated fipronil-permethrin controls. Broad ear/mange claims, severe cat-contact risk and pack insufficiency above 40 kg make the complete-label practical value weak.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The exact four-pipette dog pack has current Georgian authorisation through 2031, an approved manufacturer instruction and a current Russian umbrella registration. Exact identity is verifiable, but there is no EU/GB/US authorisation or public exact-product regulator assessment; the umbrella feline wording is not accepted as feline evidence.

Clinical efficacy4.0/10

Fipronil supports a plausible flea/tick/lice core, but no exact-product outcomes support the two-month insect, mite, ear or mange breadth. At the label rule, permethrin is about 0.95 mg/kg versus roughly 60-120 mg/kg in authorised comparators, so their repellency/acaricidal trial results cannot validate Chistotel.

Safety and tolerability3.5/10

Dog irritation, salivation/lacrimation and ingestion-related neurologic toxicity are material, and repeated bilateral ear-canal use lacks a tympanic/ototoxicity boundary. Permethrin creates potentially fatal household-cat risk. Exact quantified dog target-animal, reproductive and repeated-course safety data are absent.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

Monthly skin dosing and clear weight bands are workable, but the 4 ml carton is insufficient for one dose above 40 kg and a 0.5 ml small-dog dose requires partial use of a 1 ml tube. Multi-site large-dog application, 48-hour contact/water controls and complex ear/mange repeats add burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian per-treatment price was unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • Complete dog-scope boundary: this score covers skin prevention/treatment for fleas, lice and ixodid ticks, bilateral ear drops for otodectosis, repeated canine sarcoptic-mange treatment and direct attached-tick application. It does not transfer the umbrella instruction to cats or include feline notoedrosis.
  • Evidence/exposure conflict: the label rule supplies about 4.75 mg/kg fipronil and 0.95 mg/kg permethrin. Authorised fipronil-permethrin controls use about 6.7-13.4 and 60-120 mg/kg respectively; their quantified one-month repellency/kill cannot validate this 63-126-fold lower permethrin exposure.
  • Exact skin dose: under 2 kg 0.5 ml; 2-10 kg 1 ml; 10-20 kg 2 ml; 20-30 kg 3 ml; 30-40 kg 4 ml; 40-50 kg 5 ml; over 50 kg 0.1 ml/kg across 3-4 sites. Apply only to dry intact skin inaccessible to licking; do not round down because the carton is short.
  • Pack practicality: the exact carton contains four 1 ml tubes. It covers one label dose only through 40 kg; 40-50 kg needs 5 ml and over 50 kg needs more than one carton. The 0.5 ml dose partially uses a tube without validated reclosure/storage—measure accurately and discard remainder safely.
  • Dog only—cat emergency: never use this presentation on a cat despite the umbrella manufacturer instruction. Permethrin exposure or grooming a treated dog may be fatal; separate household cats for at least 48 hours and seek emergency veterinary toxicology care after any cat contact/licking.
  • Ear boundary: diagnose otodectosis and examine both canals/tympanic membranes before instilling 1-3 drops bilaterally. Do not use in an ulcerated canal, ruptured/unknown tympanum or nonspecific otitis; repeated 3-5-day dosing lacks an exact public ototoxicity dossier.
  • Mange/tick boundary: confirm canine sarcoptic mange and use 2-4 treatments 7-10 days apart until clinical recovery plus two negative acarologic checks. One drop on an attached tick is not whole-patient prevention; remove it mechanically after 20 minutes if still attached.
  • Do not use under 3 months, during pregnancy/lactation, infectious disease or convalescence, on damaged/wet skin, or with another insectoacaricide. Prevent licking; stop, wash with mild detergent/water and reassess for salivation, lacrimation, dermatitis, vomiting, weakness, ataxia, tremor or seizure.
  • Flea/environment control: treat every suitable household animal with its own species-safe product and manage bedding/environment. Repeat general application only when indicated and no more often than monthly; investigate bathing, reinfestation, adherence and resistance before stacking products.
  • Handler/water control: wear gloves, wash hands, prevent petting and small-child contact, and do not bathe or allow swimming for 48 hours. Fipronil/permethrin are hazardous to aquatic organisms; keep from watercourses and dispose of opened tubes, remainder and packaging safely.

vetman score 5.1/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 002583 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak juvenile-dog rinse-off option with a clear 0.5-1 ml/kg and 5-7 minute instruction, but no exact-product trial and a serious historical strength conflict in the Georgian source. Do not extend the kitten claim into VetMan without recognised-regulator exact-product evidence.

Regulatory and scientific credibility4.5/10

The exact 0.4%, 180 ml juvenile presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a detailed current manufacturer instruction. The Georgian source historically recorded a 40% strength while the exact instruction states 0.4%; that 100-fold conflict lowers source confidence, and no recognised-regulator dossier or independent exact-product trial was found.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

Permethrin is an established contact insecticide and current authorised dog shampoos support a rinse-off role against fleas. The exact instruction also claims lice and chewing lice, but no controlled exact-product outcome study was found. A shampoo treats parasites present during bathing and cannot by itself control the environmental flea life cycle or provide long-lasting protection.

Safety and tolerability6.0/10

The rinse-off 0.4% canine regimen is usable from eight weeks according to the exact instruction, but no independent margin-of-safety study was found. It excludes pregnancy/lactation and weakened, emaciated, infectious or convalescent animals. Feline exposure remains a serious hard stop despite the source label naming kittens.

Clinical practicality5.0/10

Apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to the wetted coat, lather, prevent licking and eye exposure, wait 5-7 minutes, rinse thoroughly, dry and comb. It is feasible but requires full-body bathing and restraint; repeat treatment still needs a parasite and environmental plan rather than automatic shampooing.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • DO NOT USE ON CATS OR KITTENS. VetMan found no exact-product feline authorisation from an internationally recognised regulator. Keep cats away from the concentrate, bath water, wet lather, towels and the treated dog until the coat has been completely rinsed and dried; suspected exposure requires immediate veterinary advice.
  • Confirm the ectoparasite and burden before treatment. A rinse-off shampoo is not a substitute for a persistent flea programme, and repeated empirical use without examining the animal and environment can miss reinfestation, another parasite or dermatologic disease.
  • For a dog at least eight weeks old, weigh and apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to the wetted coat, lather evenly, maintain contact for 5-7 minutes, then rinse completely, dry and comb.
  • Do not use below eight weeks of age. Do not transfer this threshold to another permethrin product; concentration, cis:trans ratio, excipients and rinse-off instructions are formulation-specific.
  • Do not use during pregnancy or lactation, or in sick, weakened, emaciated, infectious or convalescent animals where excluded by the exact label. Stabilise and diagnose the patient before ectoparasiticide exposure.
  • Prevent licking and contact with the eyes, mouth or other mucosa throughout bathing. Rinse immediately after accidental mucosal exposure; salivation, vomiting, tremor, twitching, ataxia, hyperaesthesia or seizure requires urgent decontamination and veterinary assessment.
  • Do not combine with another insecticide or acaricide unless compatibility and timing are explicitly established. Apparent failure should trigger confirmation of dose, contact time, rinsing, parasite identity and environmental control rather than interval shortening or product stacking.
  • Treat bedding and the household environment when fleas are present and ensure every in-contact animal receives a species-appropriate product. Shampoo removes or kills parasites on the animal at treatment but cannot eliminate environmental eggs, larvae and pupae or guarantee durable protection.
  • Permethrin is hazardous to aquatic organisms and the exact labels warn of toxicity to fish, with some also naming bees. Keep concentrate and rinse water out of drains, ponds and watercourses, use gloves when appropriate, wash hands after treatment and dispose of residue and packaging safely.

Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 156-11 · Verified on 20 Oct 2026

A credible four-week canine permethrin spot-on with additional but shorter vector activity. It is useful only where strict cat-exposure prevention and environmental precautions are realistic; the 1 ml format is less convenient for 15-30 kg dogs.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact 715 mg/1 ml presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed AEMPS SPC; independent literature supports canine permethrin, while exact-product comparative trials are limited.

Clinical efficacy7.8/10

The label supports four weeks against fleas and ticks, three weeks of mosquito insecticidal activity and one week of sand-fly repellency. Class evidence is credible, but protection duration varies by vector and occasional attachment or biting means transmission cannot be excluded.

Safety and tolerability6.8/10

Canine adverse events are very rare but include local, gastrointestinal, behavioural and neurologic effects. Cat exposure can be fatal; strict 72-hour separation, handler precautions, insecticide exclusions and aquatic protection materially constrain safe use.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

A fixed pipette is convenient below 15 kg, but dogs from 15-30 kg require two pipettes at two sites. Exact weighing, 72-hour cat separation, drying, child-contact and swimming restrictions add substantial household workflow.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Never use on cats. Keep treated dogs away from cats for 72 hours and until dry; wash an exposed cat with shampoo or soap and seek veterinary care immediately.
  • Do not use below 2 weeks of age, on extensive skin lesions or with hypersensitivity to permethrin or excipients.
  • Below 2 kg use only after veterinary benefit-risk assessment; consult before use in sick or debilitated dogs.
  • Do not combine with other pyrethroid, organophosphate or carbamate insecticides.
  • Avoid skin, eye and mouth exposure; keep children from handling the dog until dry and do not share a bed immediately after treatment.
  • Permethrin is hazardous to aquatic organisms; keep treated dogs out of surface water for two days.
  • Monitor lethargy, local skin reaction, salivation, vomiting, diarrhoea, agitation, ataxia, tremor, seizure or paresis; bathe and seek care if significant signs occur.

A credible weight-specific canine permethrin spot-on with four-week flea/tick activity and shorter vector effects. The single 2 ml pipette is practical, but fatal feline toxicity and household/environmental precautions remain decisive limitations.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

The exact 1430 mg/2 ml, 15-30 kg presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed AEMPS SPC; independent literature supports canine permethrin, while exact-product comparative trials are limited.

vetman score 8.2/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 313-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A strongly supported four-week flea, tick and vector-repellency option for dogs when the combined role is actually needed. Its value is limited by strict cat-exposure precautions and a more involved application process, not by weak canine efficacy.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

All five exact presentations are currently registered in Georgia, with a current regulator-hosted product-line leaflet, a transparent assessment dossier and exact-form evidence.

Clinical efficacy8.5/10

The regulatory dossier and several exact-product controlled or field studies consistently support four-week flea and tick activity plus anti-feeding activity against labelled sand flies and mosquitoes. Some studies are sponsor-linked and bites or attachment are not completely prevented.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

Correctly selected dogs generally tolerate the label dose well and canine reactions are very rare, but neurologic signs are possible and permethrin exposure can be fatal to cats. Strict species separation, age, weight, illness and reproductive-use restrictions materially shape safe use.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

Monthly weight-band dosing is workable, but application to two to four skin sites, drying time, cat separation, licking prevention and swimming or shampoo restrictions create more handling burden than a simple single-site ectoparasiticide.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Never use on cats or rabbits. Permethrin exposure is extremely poisonous and may be fatal to cats; keep treated dogs away until the site is fully dry and urgently wash and seek veterinary help after accidental exposure.
  • Do not use in sick, febrile or convalescent dogs or in known hypersensitivity to either active substance or an excipient.
  • Use this fixed combination for confirmed or credible flea and/or tick risk when sand-fly or mosquito repellency is also needed; do not add the permethrin component without a coherent clinical purpose.
  • Do not use below 12 weeks of age or 1.5 kg. Weigh accurately and use the exact weight-band pipette; overdose can increase adverse reactions.
  • Very rare canine reactions include application-site pruritus, erythema or alopecia, vomiting, agitation and neurologic signs. Prevent licking; transient hypersalivation may follow oral exposure.
  • Single ticks or bites by sand flies or mosquitoes may still occur, so pathogen transmission cannot be excluded; some Dermacentor or Rhipicephalus present at application may remain alive for 48 hours.
  • Frequent swimming or shampooing may reduce persistence. Keep dogs out of watercourses for two days, minimise human contact for about 12 hours, and use in pregnancy or lactation only after veterinary benefit-risk assessment.

Effitix

134 mg/1200 mg, fipronil 134.2 mg + permethrin 1199 mg, spot-on solution for dogs 10-20 kg
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full canine label: flea treatment/prevention and FAD strategy, tick treatment and four-week control, with four-week sand-fly and mosquito repellency when that combined role is clinically required · On the skin
Care settingExact weight-band pipette after weighing and parasite-risk assessment; apply to two to four skin sites, prevent licking, and separate treated dogs from cats until fully dry
vetman score 8.2/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 317-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

Lapushka

permethrin 0.4% insecticidal shampoo, 220 ml for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Label-concordant rinse-off treatment of susceptible flea, louse and chewing-louse infestations in dogs; not a persistent whole-house flea-control programme · On the skin
Care settingHome or clinic bathing after veterinary confirmation of the ectoparasite and patient suitability; exact weight-based volume, contact time, complete rinsing and environmental control are required.
vetman score 5.2/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000618 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak but usable rinse-off option for confirmed susceptible canine fleas, lice or chewing lice when a shampoo is specifically appropriate. Exact-product evidence is manufacturer-led, protection is not persistent and cats must be completely excluded from exposure despite the source label.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

The exact 0.4%, 220 ml presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current detailed manufacturer page with dose, contact time and repeat interval. No public internationally recognised regulator dossier or independent exact-product trial was found, and its feline claim is not accepted by VetMan without stronger exact-product authorisation.

Dilute rinse-off canine exposure is more controllable than concentrated leave-on permethrin, but exact-formulation margin-of-safety and adverse-event frequency are not publicly characterised. The label excludes dogs under two months, illness/convalescence and pregnancy/lactation. Prevent licking, mucosal exposure and any cat contact with product or wet lather.

Clinical practicality4.5/10

Apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to a thoroughly wetted coat, lather over the body while preventing licking, maintain contact for 7-10 minutes, rinse completely, dry and comb. The measurable weight-based range is clear but bathing, restraint and the long contact time are burdensome; repeat only when indicated and no more often than every 10 days.

  • Weigh the dog and apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to a fully wetted coat, lather evenly, maintain contact for 7-10 minutes, then rinse completely, dry and comb. Do not repeat more often than every 10 days.
  • Do not use below two months of age.

1% shampoo, 250 ml for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label: treatment of flea, louse and tick infestation with a permethrin 1% rinse-off shampoo, repeated once after 2-3 days · On the skin
Care settingClinic or owner bath of an infested dog in a household where cats are kept apart for 72 hours
vetman score 6.3/10 Situational / acceptable
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 161-11 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A situational dog shampoo: an EU-authorised permethrin product useful for knocking down a current infestation, but it gives little lasting protection and is dangerous for cats in the household.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.0/10

The product has a current Bulgarian national authorisation with an SPC in the EU Union Product Database and is registered in Georgia (161-11); there is no independent product study.

Clinical efficacy5.5/10

Permethrin is a proven insecticide and acaricide in dogs, but a rinse-off shampoo kills only parasites present at the bath and leaves little residual protection.

Safety and tolerability6.5/10

Permethrin is well tolerated by dogs, but the SPC states it is extremely toxic and may be fatal to cats, so treated dogs must be kept away from cats for 72 hours.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

Ten to fifteen ml worked into a wet coat for 5-10 minutes, then rinsed and repeated after 2-3 days, is routine but needs two baths.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Dogs only. Never use on cats: permethrin is extremely toxic and may be fatal to cats. The Georgian register lists cats in error.
  • Keep treated dogs separated from cats for 72 hours and stop cats from licking or lying on treated dogs.
  • Rinse-off use gives little residual protection; follow with a longer-acting preventive.
  • Do not use with ingredient hypersensitivity; cutaneous use only.
  • Hazardous to fish and aquatic organisms; wash exposed skin after use.

Care settingVeterinarian-selected at-home dog spot-on using the exact weight band and skin sites, with licking/fire/human-contact controls, 72-hour household-cat separation and response monitoring
vetman score 5.9/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 133-11 · Verified on 23 Oct 2026

A transparent authorised dog-only permethrin spot-on with a named month-long flea/tick label, but no exact controlled outcomes and a steeply declining mg/kg exposure across broad bands—especially above 30 kg—make efficacy uncertain. Dog monitoring and an absolute 72-hour household-cat separation are non-negotiable.

Regulatory and scientific credibility7.5/10

Exact strength, species, named targets, duration, dose, contraindications, adverse effects and handling are transparent under current Georgian and valid Bulgarian/EU national authorisations. The public SPC text dates from 2013 and no public exact-product assessment or outcome dossier was found; GB/US exact authorisation is absent.

Clinical efficacy4.5/10

Permethrin spot-on class activity against the named fleas and ticks is credible, but controlled studies used 50-65% formulations or about 50-60 mg/kg, not exact 10%. This product delivers roughly 50 to 6.7 mg/kg within the 2-15 kg band, 13.3 to 6.7 mg/kg at 15-30 kg and still less above 30 kg, so the exact four-week claims—especially in larger dogs—lack an applicable public dose-response bridge.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

Dog-specific restrictions, transient local reactions, rare neurologic/GI signs, twofold-overdose observation and decontamination guidance are clear. Yet adverse-event denominators are absent, there is no antidote, pregnancy/lactation and illness/skin-damage exclusions are material, and direct or secondary cat exposure may be fatal despite correct canine intent.

Clinical practicality6.0/10

One or two measured millilitres at one or two skin sites and at least 14-day spacing are manageable. The reusable 10 ml bottle needs accurate measurement and two-month tracking; the 15 kg overlap, no-touch/fire precautions, drying, bathing effect and strict 72-hour separation from household cats create substantial real-world handling burden.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Current Georgian price for the exact 10 ml presentation and patient-specific course cost were unavailable; price is excluded from the denominator.

Important safety and use flags

  • DOGS ONLY — fatal cat boundary. Never apply to a cat. Keep every treated dog completely separated from cats for 72 hours and prevent cats from grooming the dog, sharing bedding/brushes or contacting the wet site. Any feline exposure needs immediate veterinary decontamination and toxicology care.
  • Exact dose: 2-15 kg, 1 ml on intact skin between the scapulae; from 15 kg to 30 kg and above, 1 ml there plus 1 ml at the tail base. The source bands overlap at exactly 15 kg: verify weight and physical leaflet and document one selected band.
  • Do not use below 3 months or 2 kg, during pregnancy/lactation, on damaged skin, in a sick/convalescent dog or with hypersensitivity. Do not repeat sooner than 14 days and do not transfer a dose from another permethrin product.
  • The label covers Ctenocephalides felis for four weeks and Ixodes ricinus/Rhipicephalus sanguineus for more than four weeks. No controlled exact-product outcome was found and mg/kg exposure falls sharply across broad weight bands; inspect response and do not promise uniform month-long control, especially in large dogs.
  • Apply directly to visible intact skin, not hair, and prevent licking. Frequent swimming or bathing may reduce efficacy. Treat all dogs in the household when indicated and use a cat-appropriate product for cats; integrate environmental flea control rather than relying on one spot-on alone.
  • Mild irritation may last up to 48 hours; temporary hypersensitivity/scratching and rare alopecia, CNS intoxication or GI disturbance are labelled. Hyperesthesia, tremor, hypersalivation, diarrhoea, temperature change or convulsion needs immediate washing with non-insecticidal shampoo and urgent veterinary care; no antidote exists.
  • Keep away from flame until fully dry, do not touch the application site for 3-6 hours, preferably treat in the evening and do not let the dog sleep with people—especially children. Wear gloves, wash hands and rinse eyes for 15 minutes after accidental exposure.
  • The exact label says no known interactions, not proven universal compatibility. Review all other ectoparasiticides and pesticides; do not layer treatments or shorten the interval without an explicit evidence-based plan, particularly after adverse signs or poor response.
  • Permethrin is toxic to fish, aquatic organisms and bees. Prevent entry into water, drains and hives; keep the dog away from water while wet, dispose locally as hazardous veterinary/pesticide waste and never reuse the container.
  • Store below 25 C in the original dry container away from heat, direct sunlight, food and drink. Mark first opening and discard after two months; verify the exact 10 ml glass dropper bottle, authorisation, lot and expiry before each measured dose.

Phytoelita

permethrin 0.3% insecticidal shampoo, 220 ml for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Label-concordant rinse-off treatment of susceptible flea, louse and chewing-louse infestations in dogs; not a persistent whole-house flea-control programme · On the skin
Care settingHome or clinic bathing after veterinary confirmation of the ectoparasite and patient suitability; exact weight-based volume, contact time, complete rinsing and environmental control are required.
vetman score 4.5/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 002581 · Verified on 22 Oct 2026

A weak canine rinse-off option whose exact regimen is identifiable but whose principal clinical source is archived and reports cancelled Russian registration. Georgian registration remains active, yet exact-product efficacy and current dossier transparency are too limited for a stronger recommendation.

Regulatory and scientific credibility3.5/10

The exact 0.3%, 220 ml presentation remains actively registered in Georgia, but the available Russian state-register-derived product record is archived and states that its Russian registration was cancelled; the current VEDA catalogue does not provide an equivalent exact page. Composition and dog regimen are identifiable, but current clinical-source transparency is weak.

Clinical efficacy4.0/10

Permethrin is an established contact insecticide and authorised dog shampoos support a rinse-off role against fleas, but no controlled exact-product outcome study supports this archived 0.3% formulation. A shampoo treats parasites present during bathing and cannot by itself control the environmental flea life cycle or provide the persistence of modern long-acting alternatives.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

The dilute rinse-off dog regimen limits persistence, but exact-formulation adverse-event frequency and margin-of-safety are unavailable. The archived instruction excludes infectious or convalescent animals, nursing females and concurrent insectoacaricides; salivation, tremor or vomiting may follow overdose. Cats must not contact the product or wet treated dog.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to the wetted coat, lather, maintain contact for 3-5 minutes and rinse completely. The shorter contact time helps, but accurate whole-body application, restraint, drying and environmental treatment remain necessary; repeat no more often than every 10 days.

  • For a dog over two months old, weigh and apply 0.5-1 ml/kg to the wetted coat, lather evenly, maintain contact for 3-5 minutes, then rinse completely, dry and comb. Do not repeat more often than every 10 days.
  • Do not use below two months of age. Do not transfer this threshold to another permethrin product; concentration, cis:trans ratio, excipients and rinse-off instructions are formulation-specific.
  • Do not use in infectious or convalescent dogs or nursing females. Pregnancy and breeding safety are not established in the accessible exact source; prefer an alternative with a clearer reproductive dossier.

Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full canine label: therapeutic and preventive control of fleas and ticks, with protection against ticks for up to four weeks and fleas for up to three months · On the skin
Care settingHome spot-on use after confirming canine species, body weight and ectoparasite risk; apply one to three 1 ml applicators directly to the skin at the label-defined dorsal sites
vetman score 7.6/10 Good
Evidence confidence: Medium Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 17-11, 156-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A credible registered single-ingredient canine permethrin spot-on with a clear weight-based regimen and useful labelled duration. It is a reasonable flea and tick option when strict cat-exposure prevention is feasible, but exact-product comparative evidence is thinner than for the best-documented modern combinations.

Regulatory and scientific credibility8.4/10

The exact 650 mg/ml product is registered in Georgia and remains valid in the EU regulatory network with a regulator-hosted exact-product SPC, clear composition, dose bands and authorisation history.

Clinical efficacy7.4/10

The label supports prolonged flea and tick control. A small controlled field study found 100% flea efficacy through day 28 with a 65% permethrin spot-on, and a broad review supports roughly four-week tick activity, but formulation-dependent variability and limited exact-product comparative evidence remain.

Safety and tolerability7.0/10

Correctly dosed canine use is generally well tolerated, with temporary application-site irritation identified by the product information and no clinical signs in the small 65% permethrin field study. The severe and potentially fatal hazard to cats makes species separation and residue control essential.

Clinical practicality7.8/10

Weight-banded one-time application is straightforward, but medium and large dogs require two or three applicators at multiple dorsal sites. Wetting or shampooing requires repeat treatment, with at least seven days between applications, and treated dogs must be separated from cats until dry.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • For dogs only. Permethrin is extremely poisonous and potentially fatal to cats; prevent direct application, grooming of the treated dog and contact until the application sites are dry, and seek urgent veterinary advice after exposure.
  • Do not use in puppies under three weeks of age or in animals hypersensitive to permethrin or an excipient.
  • Do not combine with another insecticidal ectoparasiticide unless the combination has been specifically assessed.
  • Temporary application-site irritation can occur. If it develops, rinse the dog with water and assess persistent or systemic signs.
  • Apply directly to skin at the correct number of sites: one 1 ml applicator below 15 kg, two at 15-30 kg and three above 30 kg. Do not rub in.
  • Repeat after the dog becomes soaked or is shampooed, but never sooner than seven days after the preceding application.
  • Permethrin distribution and tick efficacy vary with formulation, dose, coat and body site. The label controls ectoparasites but does not guarantee prevention of every attachment, bite or pathogen transmission.

A locally registered monthly dog spot-on whose active combination is supported by good comparator evidence, but not by an independent study of this exact product. It is acceptable when repellency is specifically needed and strict cat-exposure prevention is feasible.

Regulatory and scientific credibility6.5/10

The exact presentation is actively registered in Georgia and has a current manufacturer leaflet. Comparable fipronil-permethrin spot-ons have transparent UK/EU regulatory records, but no public assessment dossier or independent exact-WOW formulation review was found.

Clinical efficacy7.0/10

Randomised and field studies of closely comparable fipronil-permethrin spot-ons support flea, tick, mosquito and sand-fly activity over the monthly interval. None tested this exact WOW concentration, excipients or manufacturing process, so broad label transfer remains indirect.

Safety and tolerability5.5/10

Correctly used fipronil-permethrin spot-ons are generally tolerated by dogs, but transient skin or neurologic/gastrointestinal signs can occur. Permethrin exposure can cause fatal convulsions in cats, making household separation, application control and rapid decontamination critical.

Clinical practicality7.5/10

A single 2 ml tube and monthly interval are convenient, but the full dose must reach intact skin at several dorsal points and the treated dog must be kept from cats until completely dry.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • DOGS ONLY. Never use on cats or rabbits. Permethrin can cause potentially fatal convulsions in cats; prevent cats from licking treated dogs and keep them separated until the site is completely dry.
  • If a cat is exposed, immediately wash the skin with mild soap or shampoo and seek urgent veterinary care; do not wait for tremor, salivation, ataxia or seizures.
  • Do not use below 2 months of age or 2 kg, in sick, debilitated or convalescent dogs, on damaged skin, or with known fipronil/permethrin hypersensitivity.
  • Pregnancy and lactation require an individual veterinary benefit-risk decision; the exact leaflet does not establish routine unrestricted use.
  • Apply the entire correct tube directly to dry intact skin at the labelled dorsal points. Prevent licking, eye or mucosal contact and do not bathe for 24 hours.
  • Monitor for local irritation, pruritus, nausea, vomiting, weakness, tremor or incoordination. If intolerance develops, wash the application site and contact a veterinarian.
  • Repellency and killing reduce but do not eliminate attachment, bites or vector-borne pathogen transmission. Diagnose illness independently and use region-appropriate vector prevention.
  • Independent evidence concerns closely comparable fipronil-permethrin spot-ons, not this exact WOW formulation. Reassess product choice if expected monthly control fails.
