Biocan M Plus

suspension for injection, 1 ml dose for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label from 2 months: prophylaxis and adjunctive therapy of Microsporum canis dermatophytosis with an inactivated vaccine · Intramuscular
Care settingClinic-administered intramuscular vaccination; never a substitute for topical and systemic antifungal treatment and environmental decontamination
vetman score 4.9/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 1-03/94 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option: a low-risk vaccine whose prevention and treatment claims for ringworm are not supported by independent evidence or the WAVD consensus. Treat dermatophytosis with proven antifungals and decontamination, not vaccination.

Regulatory and scientific credibility4.0/10

The product is registered in Georgia and in Czechia since 2001 with a public SPC, but its efficacy rests only on old manufacturer data, so the PLAYBOOK evidence gate caps credibility at 4.

Clinical efficacy3.0/10

The WAVD consensus finds no convincing evidence that dermatophyte vaccines prevent or cure M. canis infection and does not recommend them; cure depends on antifungal therapy and decontamination.

Safety and tolerability7.5/10

Very rare pea-sized local reactions are labelled; a double dose caused mild swelling and fever, and safety in pregnancy and lactation is not established.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Two or three intramuscular injections into alternating hind limbs 10-21 days apart, a ban on other vaccines around the course and annual boosting create a real burden for an uncertain benefit.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not rely on this vaccine to cure ringworm: confirm M. canis infection and treat with systemic and topical antifungals plus environmental decontamination until mycological cure.
  • Do not give other vaccines from one week before the first dose until 14 days after the second or third dose, except Biocan vaccines.
  • Ringworm is zoonotic. Vaccination does not make a dog non-infectious; protect people and other animals during treatment.
  • Inject intramuscularly into the hind limb, left side first and right side for the next dose. Observe for local swelling or mild fever.
  • Always give it separately: do not use it as a diluent for lyophilised vaccines or mix it with liquid Biocan vaccines.
  • Safety in pregnancy and lactation is not established.
  • Store at 2-8 C, do not freeze and shake before use.
