vetman assessment
vetman’s 10-point assessment brings together a product’s regulatory credibility, clinical efficacy, safety and practicality. Cost-effectiveness is assessed only when reliable data are available. It is informational and does not replace a veterinarian’s clinical judgment for an individual patient.

Ivermek Gel

1/50/15 mg/ml, 30 ml for dogs and cats
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label: diagnosed otodectic otitis, demodicosis and sarcoptic or notoedric mange treated with an ivermectin 0.1% gel with lidocaine and dexpanthenol, by ear or on lesions · On the skin
Care settingVeterinary-diagnosed mite infection with MDR1 status considered, licking prevented and follow-up skin scrapes or ear cytology
vetman score 4.7/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000935 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option: an ivermectin ear and skin gel with plausible ear-mite activity but no product data and a real MDR1 risk. Isoxazolines are the evidence-based choice for mange and demodicosis.

Regulatory and scientific credibility4.0/10

The gel is registered in Georgia (000935, valid to 2027) with a current Russian manufacturer instruction, but no EU, UK or US authorisation was documented in the reviewed evidence or independent product evidence.

Clinical efficacy4.5/10

Topical ivermectin has some evidence against ear mites, but there is no product study, and current dermatology practice treats demodicosis and sarcoptic mange with systemic isoxazolines rather than a local gel.

Safety and tolerability5.0/10

Skin doses of 0.2-0.3 ml/kg give 0.2-0.3 mg/kg ivermectin and 10-15 mg/kg lidocaine, which matters in MDR1 breeds and if licked; the label gives no breed warning.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Ear use needs 1-2 treatments and skin use 2-4 treatments at 5-7 day intervals on prepared lesions, with licking prevented.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Avoid in Collies, Shelties, Australian Shepherds and other MDR1 breeds or crosses unless MDR1-normal: licked or absorbed ivermectin can cause ataxia, blindness, coma and death.
  • Do not combine with another macrocyclic lactone or topical insectoacaricide.
  • Prevent licking; watch for mydriasis, ataxia, tremor or depression after treatment of large skin areas.
  • Confirm mites by skin scrape or ear cytology; for generalised demodicosis or sarcoptic mange use a systemic isoxazoline.
  • Clean the ears first and treat both ears even if only one is affected.

vetman score 4.7/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000935 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option for cats: usable for confirmed ear mites in small amounts, but lidocaine and ivermectin exposure on larger skin areas is a concern. Authorised selamectin or isoxazoline spot-ons are better supported.

Regulatory and scientific credibility4.0/10

The gel is registered in Georgia (000935, valid to 2027) with a current Russian manufacturer instruction, but no EU, UK or US authorisation was documented in the reviewed evidence or independent product evidence.

Clinical efficacy5.0/10

Topical ivermectin is a recognised ear-mite treatment in cats and notoedric mange responds to macrocyclic lactones, but this gel has no product study.

Safety and tolerability4.5/10

Cats groom treated skin, and 0.2-0.3 ml/kg on lesions gives 10-15 mg/kg lidocaine, to which cats are sensitive, plus ivermectin exposure that is risky in kittens.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

Ear use needs 1-2 treatments and skin use 2-4 treatments at 5-7 day intervals, with licking prevented.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Treat only limited lesion areas: cats are sensitive to lidocaine, and licked gel can cause salivation, tremor, depression or seizures.
  • Do not combine with another macrocyclic lactone or topical insectoacaricide.
  • Use particular caution in kittens and debilitated cats; no minimum age is stated.
  • Confirm mites by ear cytology or skin scrape and treat in-contact cats and dogs.
  • Clean the ears first and treat both ears even if only one is affected.

  • Known Breed Sensitivities Ivermectin
Collie, Collie (unspecified), Collie - Scottish Rough, Collie - Scottish Smooth, Sheepdog - Old English, Sheepdog - Shetland (Sheltie), Shetland Sheepdog
Ivermectin: collies and related herding breeds with the MDR1 (ABCB1) deletion are sensitive to it. The heartworm-prevention dose (6 µg/kg) is tolerated; higher doses (the label: more than 16 times that) can cause dilated pupils, unsteadiness, tremors, coma and death. Give antiparasitic doses only to a dog tested MDR1 normal.
