vetman assessment
vetman’s 10-point assessment brings together a product’s regulatory credibility, clinical efficacy, safety and practicality. Cost-effectiveness is assessed only when reliable data are available. It is informational and does not replace a veterinarian’s clinical judgment for an individual patient.

Artrin Plus

110/500/100/10 mg palatable scored tablets, N18 for dogs
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full dog label from 3 kg: carprofen 110 mg with glucosamine, chondroitin and manganese for short courses of pain and inflammation in osteoarticular disease · oral
Care settingVeterinary-prescribed NSAID course after examination and risk screening, with weight-checked dosing
vetman score 5.1/10 Weak evidence support
Evidence confidence: Low Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 000892 · Verified on 21 Oct 2026

A weak option: the carprofen works, but the coarse weight bands can roughly double the standard dose in small dogs and the added nutraceuticals bring no proven benefit. A single-agent, accurately dosed carprofen product is safer.

Regulatory and scientific credibility5.0/10

The N18 dog presentation is registered in Georgia (000892, valid to 2030) with the Argentine maker's leaflet; carprofen itself is EU-authorised for dogs with strong independent evidence, but this fixed combination has no EU, UK or US authorisation documented in the reviewed evidence or product study.

Clinical efficacy6.0/10

Carprofen reliably reduces osteoarthritis pain and inflammation in dogs; the glucosamine and chondroitin add no proven benefit, least of all over an 8-day course.

Safety and tolerability4.0/10

Weight bands give up to about 9 mg/kg carprofen at 3 kg and about 7 mg/kg at 8 kg, roughly double the usual 4 mg/kg daily dose; NSAID gastrointestinal, renal and hepatic risks apply and the leaflet leaves dose gaps at 7.5-8 kg and 15 kg.

Clinical practicality5.5/10

A palatable scored tablet once daily is easy to give, but quarter-tablet splitting and coarse bands make accurate dosing hard in small dogs.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

No verified current Georgian price or patient-adjusted course cost was found; foreign prices were not substituted.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not give to cats. Do not use in dogs with gastric ulcer, phenylketonuria or hypersensitivity to a component.
  • Weigh the dog: at the light end of each band the carprofen dose is well above 4 mg/kg (about 9 mg/kg at 3 kg); prefer an accurately dosed carprofen product in small dogs. No dose is set for 7.5-8 kg or exactly 15 kg.
  • Do not combine with other NSAIDs or glucocorticoids; allow a washout when switching.
  • Dehydration, renal, hepatic, cardiovascular or gastrointestinal disease, coagulation disorders, hypoproteinaemia and pregnancy need a benefit-risk decision before use.
  • Stop and seek veterinary advice for vomiting, dark stools, anorexia, lethargy, jaundice or changes in thirst or urination; check kidney and liver values in at-risk or older dogs.

  • Degenerative Joint Disease · oral (once daily; usual course 8 days): DOGS ONLY. Give one quarter tablet daily. The leaflet leaves 7.5-8 kg unstated and assigns two different bands to exactly 15 kg; no dose is inferred in either gap. Do not give to cats. Do not use with component hypersensitivity, gastric ulcer or phenylketonuria. Coagulation disorder, cardiovascular disease, dehydration, renal or gastrointestinal disease and hypoproteinaemia require veterinary benefit-risk assessment. Pregnancy also requires benefit-risk assessment. Avoid concurrent NSAIDs or glucocorticoids; the leaflet lists additional clinically relevant interactions. Monitor for gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal, neurological, urinary, behavioural, haematological or dermatological adverse effects and stop for suspected intolerance.

Known Contraindications

  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen in dogs with renal disease. Dehydration, hypovolaemia, or hypotension further increases the risk of renal toxicity.
    Sources: FDA
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen in dogs with hepatic disease. Cyclooxygenase-inhibiting non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can cause hepatic, renal, and gastrointestinal toxicity.
    Sources: FDA
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen in animals with significant cardiac disease because haemodynamic compromise can increase renal and gastrointestinal risk.
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen when gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding is present or likely.
    Sources: FDA
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen in patients with blood dyscrasia or a bleeding disorder.
    Sources: FDA
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen during pregnancy or lactation. Fetotoxic effects occurred in laboratory animals at doses close to the therapeutic range.
    Sources: FDA
  • Critical Carprofen
Do not use carprofen during lactation. The injectable product is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation in dogs and cats.
  • Critical Carprofen
Rimadyl should not be used in dogs exhibiting previous hypersensitivity to carprofen.
    Sources: FDA
  • Warning Carprofen
Avoid carprofen in dehydrated, hypovolaemic, or hypotensive dogs because renal toxicity may be increased.
  • Warning Carprofen
Do not use carprofen tablets in dogs younger than 4 months. Do not use the injectable product in dogs younger than 10 weeks or cats younger than 5 months.

Known Drug Interactions

  • Contraindicated Carprofen + Robenacoxib
Do not give robenacoxib together with other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids because adverse gastrointestinal and renal effects may increase.
Recommendation: Do not use these drugs together. Allow a treatment-free interval of at least 24 hours after the previous anti-inflammatory drug, extending it when required by that drug’s pharmacokinetics.
  • Major warning Meloxicam + Carprofen
Do not give other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids concurrently with carprofen or within 24 hours of treatment because gastrointestinal ulceration or perforation may occur.
Recommendation: Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another or when switching from corticosteroid use to NSAID use.
    Sources: FDA
  • Major warning Carprofen + Dexamethasone
Do not give other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids concurrently with carprofen or within 24 hours of treatment because gastrointestinal ulceration or perforation may occur.
Recommendation: Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another or when switching from corticosteroid use to NSAID use.
    Sources: FDA
  • Major warning Carprofen + Dihydrostreptomycin
Avoid giving carprofen with potentially nephrotoxic drugs because renal toxicity may increase.
Recommendation: Avoid concomitant use; if unavoidable, monitor renal function.
  • Major warning Carprofen + Prednisolone
Do not give other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or glucocorticoids concurrently with carprofen or within 24 hours of treatment because gastrointestinal ulceration or perforation may occur.
Recommendation: Consider appropriate washout times when switching from one NSAID to another or when switching from corticosteroid use to NSAID use.
