A very strong exact canine wormer with current regulation, broad labelled helminth coverage and direct field evidence. Its Giardia role is legitimate but narrower: confirm the diagnosis, use the three-day course and reassess rather than treating diarrhoea blindly.

The full helminth label is supported by recent exact-brand field evidence and longer controlled field data. A small randomized trial supports the three-day Giardia claim, but incomplete clearance in some dogs and diagnostic uncertainty prevent treating every diarrhoeic dog empirically.

Adverse events are very rare and usually mild/transient, but early pregnancy is contraindicated, cholinergic or piperazine combinations can be hazardous, and resistance or underdosing remains possible.

The palatable bone-shaped tablet is voluntarily accepted by most tested dogs, divides into halves, works with or without food and follows a simple 1-tablet/10-kg rule. A retained half is limited to seven days and Giardia requires three doses.

Important safety and use flags

  • Do not combine with piperazine; avoid other cholinergic or unsupervised anthelmintic combinations because antagonism or toxicity can occur.
  • Weigh accurately, confirm the parasite target and follow the exact product weight band and schedule; do not underdose or reuse a calendar interval without risk assessment.
  • Control fleas, prey, scavenging and environmental faecal contamination; treatment alone does not prevent Dipylidium, Taenia or other reinfection.
  • Monitor vomiting, diarrhoea or loose stool, lethargy, anorexia or hyperactivity; reassess persistent signs and suspected treatment failure.
  • Do not use below 2 kg, during the first two-thirds of pregnancy or with hypersensitivity; this dog tablet has no feline label.
  • For Giardia, confirm the diagnosis, give the labelled dose for three consecutive days and reassess; do not treat undifferentiated diarrhoea empirically.
  • Use a retained half-tablet within seven days. Echinococcus requires competent-authority guidance, follow-up and human-health precautions.

  • Critical Febantel (Dog)
    Do not use febantel-containing combinations during the first two-thirds of pregnancy because high doses caused teratogenic effects in several species. A single treatment during the final third or lactation may be used according to the product label; do not exceed the stated dose.
