Simparica

5 mg, sarolaner 5 mg, chewable tablet for dogs 1.3-2.5 kg
Assessed clinical scopeDog · Full labelled canine scope for monthly treatment and control of susceptible fleas, ticks and mites · By mouth
Care settingMonthly weight-band chewable ectoparasite control after age, neurologic and parasite-risk assessment
vetman score 8.4/10 Very good
Evidence confidence: High Georgia: Yes, veterinary · № 165-11 · Verified on 15 Oct 2026

A strongly supported monthly canine ectoparasiticide with excellent efficacy and convenience; the main limitation is the class-wide neurological risk and jurisdiction-dependent age/breeding restrictions.

Regulatory and scientific credibility9.0/10

Every exact strength is registered in Georgia and the product has mature current EU/UK and FDA authorisations with detailed public labels.

Clinical efficacy9.0/10

Randomized controlled laboratory and multicentre field studies show high and persistent monthly efficacy against labelled flea, tick and mite targets, with clinically useful speed of kill.

Safety and tolerability7.0/10

Safety is well characterised, but sarolaner is an isoxazoline and rare tremor, ataxia or seizures can occur even without prior history; pregnancy/breeding safety and young-puppy rules differ by jurisdiction.

Clinical practicality9.0/10

One palatable chew once monthly across six clear weight bands is highly practical; accurate weighing and use of the correct whole-tablet band remain essential.

Full-course cost-effectiveness-

Price was not assessed and is excluded from the overall score.

Important safety and use flags

  • Isoxazolines can be associated with tremor, ataxia and seizures, including in dogs without a prior seizure history; use particular caution with pre-existing neurologic disease.
  • Use only in dogs and only the correct whole-tablet weight band; do not split or extrapolate a strength to another species or band.
  • Age, pregnancy, lactation and breeding restrictions differ between current EU/UK and US labels; follow the locally applicable exact label and document the benefit-risk decision.
  • Confirm the parasite target and maintain the labelled monthly schedule; reassess breakthrough infestation, adherence and environmental reinfection rather than shortening intervals empirically.
Assessment sources
Assessed: 21 Oct 2026The overall score uses 25/25/25/15/10 weights. An unassessed price is excluded and the remaining weights are proportionally renormalised.
